Re: Nearly a third of apartment renters failed to pay landlords for April
Most landlords are few property owners....
I moved up to a bigger house and rent out my two earlier houses.

I am not the enemy. I have repairs, taxes, insurance... to pay too. On one property, I grossed $14400 and net $3000.....
The other house is a continuous loss.... new roof last year, gutters/shed this year....

Many of these renters have the means to pay and are just refusing to pay, expecting the gov't or socialism to bail them out.

Pay your bills. Don't use covid as an excuse not to.
We own you

People need to back the F*-k off of slamming MOST landlords.
Most landlords are just working stiffs hired by the PROPERTY OWNERS who are their bosses.

Don't landlord right your on the street just like an unpaying tenant.

As a landlady I got reamed weekly when the owners would come to pick up rents and check to see my complex was in good shape, ac's fixed, pool cleaned, lawns mowed...ect

This is why most landlords are known to be short tempered.
Most are just the middle man.
Taking shit from tenants and the property owners both.

My theory is that he hung out in echo chambers for years passing karma around while they all circle jerked to trump memes.

Nothing else makes sense. Can't remember if I gave him red this week yet.

He's your archenemy then, right?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77467359

I can do five a week. I have a few. I've never had any one on one interaction with any of them but I will admit they specifically irk me more than others for different reasons.

Most people I disagree with sometimes I do agree with, or at least respect what they're saying even if I disagree. There is a handful of posters around though that I just can't stomach.

Should they lose everything they worked for because you can't pay?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77467359

Lol. I'm 61. I have never been wealthy and due to bad circumstances in different years of my life, I have completely gone down the tubes and lost it all, several times.

One good thing about hitting total bottom, can only go up from there. :)

I own 3 condos
Thank God they all have good jobs

However

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78252812
Except you can't right now. For the next 3 months you cannot evict renters for failure to pay.

Aren't you getting mortgage relief?
 Quoting: samOmighty

Aren't you getting a stimulus check and $600 additional unemployment?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 28925333
Me, personally? No. I am a part-owner of a construction company in the Bay Area. We had to lay off 18 of the 21 laborers we employ because of this. Most of them are renters, renting in one of the most expensive rental markets in the nation. we have enough capital to keep 3 guys working doing roof leaks or any other 'critical' or 'essential' type of work.

Hopefully, we can bring in enough to cover the $15k a month Kaiser medical bill. We are unable to get the PPP SBA 7(a) loan due to the BS with Wells Fargo so we can't keep everyone on.

This really, really sucks.

That is who we are talking about, the OWNERS. They have the ability to forgive a few months rent or not.

If they don't then the destruction will be on their hands. It will be them destroying themselves, actually.

This only would apply to those with the ability, of coarse. There are many "landlords" that are highly leveraged and unable to float everyone for a few months. That's different.

It's the BANKS that need to forgive debts in times like these. All it would take would be honest deferrals with no strings attached.

Re: Nearly a third of apartment renters failed to pay landlords for April
For some perspective, I PAID my april bills because I had a little savings. Even though I was laid off in March. Can't find work atm.

Those savings are close to gone. They were for like a singular type emergency. A car repair. Whatever. They weren't because "lose job due to no fault of my own, then used to cover 100% of everything I need, and then have to find a job when no one is hiring/everyone is looking for one". Who can plan for that? You? Good for you. Me? No. I wasn't pay check to pay check. I wasn't like way over that but I'd been proud to get to where I was. But I'm fucked now and not because anything I did.

I can't continue like this indefinitely. Like apparently every cooperation can. I can keep looking for work, I can hope the unemployment insurance works like it says. I can hope the stimulus happens. And I can keep my eye out for other work.. but... Shit. Maybe I shouldn't have even spent my savings trying to keep ahead?

Does money even fucking matter anymore? For years it's been "oh we are so many trillion in debt blah" and then they just generated 2 trillion? Now they wanna give "essential" workers 25k? Or +13$ an hour?

How much longer can that fucking go on? Could it always go on?

I'm confused, I'm stressed, and I'm trying hard. So... Fuck all of you looking down on everyone like they ALL just want a hand out.

Re: Nearly a third of apartment renters failed to pay landlords for April
I am one of those people who couldn't pay rent. I work in a gym and I train senior citizens to exercise and rehab. I was told on the 15th of March that doors were going to be closed to the gym until further notice. Seniors were so freaked out because of the media hype(rightfully so)that no one wanted to continue training til further notice. So I work as an independent contractor and there was not any provisions in The stimulus bill for IC's but then a week to ten days later i heard they were going to include IC people in the stimulus but by that time unemployment had over 6 million applicants. I have no idea when or if this stimulus is coming and I am out of work with no options. So you explain what would you do in that situation ? Food or rent? With no end in sight yes I put myself as a priority over the landlord who just got back from a month in Barbados...

I think this article was for the Los Angeles market. I’m a property manager and we collected only slightly less than normal rent so far this month. It looks like all the late payers plan on paying this month. They are good folk who believe in doing the right thing.

NEVER EVER rent any home.

Always buy your home and live your life in such a way to be successful.

If I were a landlord, and realized that it isn't the tenants fault this virus bs is putting everyone out of work, I wouldn't bother with the eviction process if it means I would not have anyone to replace them. Why even bother?

If I couldn't pay the mortgages on the houses then they will get foreclosed anyway. Who is going to rent them now? Why not make the bank pay for the eviction process? Why not help out my customers who are getting screwed on the deal vs spending a bunch of money on an eviction process? That would just make me feel like an evil person.

I'm going down anyway unless the bank forgives the debts so why would I go through the eviction process and kick families to the street?

land lords are not evil
some land lords are more poor than renters
some land lords live and depend only on the rent they gather while renters has many ways to increase their income
they just making corona as excuse to attack only land lords because i am a land lord, while they forget about companies and rich people
the rent i gather is just 30 dollar a month that i nearly entirely depend on it to live
while only one of the renters earn at least 600 dollar a month from the store he rent even in the days of corona lockdowns

So I am not a good person? Through no fault of my own I lost work and I get to watch you on your high horse casting judgement down on people like you are perfect?? You know what you are is a person who doesn't have empathy and you try to rationalize your on shortcomings by pointing out others when they are vulnerable. My guess you are some over 40 white woman who feels smug about judging others ...
