Food supply chains starting to crack under Covid-19.
Update 4/12
After considering the consequences of adding to fears I have decided not to proceed with keeping this thread updated on a daily basis. Those who wish to share information and discuss the subject are free to do so. The anxiety I created for myself alone is enoigh for me to step back. I recognize my limitations and will no longer participate in this thread. We need solutions to problems rather than adding to the problem themselves.

Supply chains starting to crack. I work for a major food processing plant in the midwest. Someone I work with has family that works at the factory who supplies all of our plastic products. This particular factory supplies our company with 30,000 cups and lids of all sizes every few days. Apparently that plant is shutting down for 28 days. This will disrupt our ability to distribute our food products at the plant I work at. As of now we will be down the next 3 days for fog disinfecting the entire plant for a 2nd week in a row. With this disruption we are expecting an additional week to two weeks of no production which will significantly impact walmarts and grocery stores across the region.

This is the real deal folks. Food manufacturing in the midwest are now seeing disruptions. You know what will follow. Will keep this thread updated. hiding

OP, thanks for the info. I’ll add this one to your thread. JBS, in Colorado is closing until all employees can be tested after 50 confirmed and 2 dead.

The belownis from a news source that cannot be linked, phonetically: sea-in-in.

This isn’t the only facility I’ve read about having troubles. Add to this Amazon telling workers to let shipments sit 24 hours to try and help reduce exposure. There is a real problem brewing. Even if it is intermediate disruptions the ripple effect will only add to the strain of the supply chain.

A meat packing plant in Colorado where dozens of employees have contracted the novel coronavirus is closed for a deep cleaning and all workers will be tested before they can return to their jobs, officials said Friday.

The union that represents 3,000 employees at the JBS plant in Greeley said in a letter to state, county and company officials that two of its members have died.

Wow thats horrible. The psychological effect on those poor folks alone is enough to drive anyone to night terrors.

We have had 2 confirmed cases on first shift. At this point im just putting my head down and pushing through. No room for fear. Its all logic and caution at this point.

2 weeks in a row they are fog treating for Covid-19. With those two confirmed cases this week at thia facility, one of 5 in this city, its no surprise. HR made it clear they are extremely proud to take these precautions for its employees and the general public.

Who you calling new :D ive been a faithful AC for 9 years. Was just time pay the boss what is due hfand get past in pesky mass bans during such a critical time. Nothing gets passed GLP unless its deleted by mods. When thats the case i always look at it like its probably better it is deleted.

The difference between my trip last week to the grocery store and today was pretty telling. All staples today were about out. This was a few hours after the truck in the AM by the way. All chips and soda were fully stocked. Produce was fully stocked. Any item that could last more than a week was depleted and about out. Also marked up about 50-100% more than normal.

Inland So Cal;
The wave was all in one day here, March 7, in the afternoon. By the next day, wiped out.
Now, Aprill 11, still no flour is #1, along with sanitizer and no one has wipes. Then, of course, paper products 2, then yeast, rice, some vegetables, iceberg lettuce, I read they are low on beans, canned veg., tom. sauce, eggs are 6 a dozen, milk limit 1. Chicken and meat is back.
Some large stores have the tp, limited, morning only. But folks missed some small stores which had diapers, flour, sugar, etc.

I disagree. The infrastructure is there to flip it back on. What will take time is consumer confidence. We need to get pass the virus hysteria.

All jokes aside the federal government wont allow the infrastructure to collapse under these conditions. The steps taken may have inflicted serious damage but we are not quite there yet. Millions may be unemployed now and that is leading to trump considering opening thingas back up. If a 2nd wave of outbreaks hit, it will be catastrophic and leave only 2 choices. Allow it to run its course like in the UK initially or shut it down again which could destroy the american economy. Just my worthless 2 cents.

Re: Food supply chains starting to crack under Covid-19.
People keep saying that their stores are fully stocked. It must be a regional thing. I made my weekly round of grocery shopping yesterday in the Baton Rouge area. Bread, pasta, rice, canned goods, eggs, TP, some health/beauty, storage/freezer bags, water, sandwich meat, flour all there but in short supply. Meat seemed to be pretty well stocked, and produce was well stocked. I noticed that the coffee aisle looked more sparse than usual so that might be something that will be harder to find soon.

Yes, I found everything that I wanted, but there are obviously still disruptions. I used to plan my menus out for the week and make my shopping list. Now I shop to see what's available and plan my menus for the week after my shopping trip.

It does not matter for many if food is there or not, many live from paycheck to paycheck and they can only go for a few weeks before they are totally broke.

Unless they totally forgive debt and make food cheap, its going to get desperate if they continue this for weeks/months to keep things locked down...5aburnitdamned

On the contrary, im a wanna be doomsday prepper who got to waste his teen years preparing for y2k with his doomsday parents.

Your full of assumptions my friend. I do enjoy a good spat even when its with an ac with a touch of downs.

I actually crossed paths with one of the first 3 confirmed cases in my county 4 weeks ago and watched the state withold that info fron the public to allow business to protect their liability and control public fears. Watched as we all did as the feds downplayed this thing up until two weeks ago when the numbers were to great to divert attention.

And no, your dead wrong if you're calling for save yourself and those in your inner circle. Thats a cowards move...

Ive switched careers and will be keeping America fed as long as possible during the greatest crisis America has faced since WWII. If those within my reach are affected I will be there to help and support where I can.

Enjoy hiding and watching from your window during your porn breaks friend hf

It does not matter for many if food is there or not, many live from paycheck to paycheck and they can only go for a few weeks before they are totally broke.

Unless they totally forgive debt and make food cheap, its going to get desperate if they continue this for weeks/months to keep things locked down...5aburnitdamned

This is true for many unfortunate people where I work who expressed great concern for a possible lapse in work over the coming weeks. Our supply factory was all anyone was talking about tonight and the options for unemployment if it comes to that.

Re: Food supply chains starting to crack under Covid-19.
If you think that it's stressed now then wait until millions of people get their stimulus checks this week, I'm going to two stores today and topping off my preps and my gas tank.

You better buy a bigger gas tank - at 50 cents a gallon soon, get some underground tanks.

Trump said in his briefing today that he had talked to Russia, Saudi's and Mexico and they had agreed to cut production, so that low gas price might not last much longer.

It will stabilize the oil market, my concern is that in my area the stores are only about 60% stocked and limit purchases, So what happens when all of the people who were laid off 3 weeks ago or more get their money and storm the stores.

I wrote a warning thread but it didn't get any reply's last night, I bumped it this morning but still nothing, Oh well at least I tried.

Good information in your thread, 5 stars.
