Food supply chains starting to crack under Covid-19. | |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 78461177 France 04/11/2020 08:05 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Although I haven't set food in store since February, I've used the drive-in order service many times now. Usually about 10-30% of what I order is missing. It can be anything from scrub brushes to boxed wine, to cheese, to vegetables. They pretty much just give you what they want and are mostly honest about it. However in stores there are shortages. I've been speaking with a lot of friends here that have still continued to go into stores. TP, eggs, flour, pasta, many fresh fruits and vegetables have been the first to go. Hand sanitizer, rubbing alcohol also very hard to get. Certain imported fruits are now become more difficult to get: oranges, bananas, kiwis, etc. Most of the foods produced in France seem to be doing okay. That's namely dairy products, wine and spirits, vegetables, potatoes, etc. Also you can source things locally, it's pretty easy outside of the city. No shortages of coffee, tea or chocolate. So it's not all doom and gloom, but certain things that we are used to getting easily become harder to find. Of course having a garden or chicken coop at this time is a big plus. A lot of people in the area have been "too lazy" for the last few years, "not worth the time and effort" they said. |

Food supplies are full of food with a lot of restaurants closed. I was told from a supplier they lost 50% of their accounts and are overflowing with food. They cut their drivers with the lack of orders so some people may think there are shortages but they only deliver 3 days a week now. Lott’s of food people eat up. |

I've seen toilet paper more often in the past couple days than I have in the past month. The Walgreens had some at 8pm at night, which was highly unusual. Also been seeing a good supply of fresh fruits and veggies to, more than the past month. I imagine the first thing to go when checks start pumping out is going to be the beer aisle lol. AskYourMom |

The infrastructure is there to flip it back on. What will take time is consumer confidence. We need to get pass the virus hysteria. The infrastructure is at home, collecting a government check and jerking off to porno. They will not be coming back anytime soon. The longer the machine is turned off, the harder it is to turn it on with every single business under debt stress and bankruptcy soon. My brother...unless its Ma'am Not everyone has struggled in life on that kind of level like you All jokes aside the federal government wont allow the infrastructure to collapse under these conditions. The steps taken may have inflicted serious damage but we are not quite there yet. Millions may be unemployed now and that is leading to trump considering opening thingas back up. If a 2nd wave of outbreaks hit, it will be catastrophic and leave only 2 choices. Allow it to run its course like in the UK initially or shut it down again which could destroy the american economy. Just my worthless 2 cents. LOL AC thinks Federal Govt has the power to stop an infrastructure collapse. Oh they can stop a tsunami too huh. They can just throw money at it right? Do you even know what infrastructure is? |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 37555711 United States 04/11/2020 09:05 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Supply chains starting to crack. I work for a major food processing plant in the midwest. Someone I work with has family that works at the factory who supplies all of our plastic products. This particular factory supplies our company with 30,000 cups and lids of all sizes every few days. Apparently that plant is shutting down for 28 days. This will disrupt our ability to distribute our food products at the plant I work at. As of now we will be down the next 3 days for fog disinfecting the entire plant for a 2nd week in a row. With this disruption we are expecting an additional week to two weeks of no production which will significantly impact walmarts and grocery stores across the region. Quoting: Whispering~Vanity This is the real deal folks. Food manufacturing in the midwest are now seeing disruptions. You know what will follow. Will keep this thread updated. The belownis from a news source that cannot be linked, phonetically: sea-in-in. This isn’t the only facility I’ve read about having troubles. Add to this Amazon telling workers to let shipments sit 24 hours to try and help reduce exposure. There is a real problem brewing. Even if it is intermediate disruptions the ripple effect will only add to the strain of the supply chain. A meat packing plant in Colorado where dozens of employees have contracted the novel coronavirus is closed for a deep cleaning and all workers will be tested before they can return to their jobs, officials said Friday. The union that represents 3,000 employees at the JBS plant in Greeley said in a letter to state, county and company officials that two of its members have died. Also the JBS in grand island nebraska has 28 cases. Remains open. |

I normally shop for less processed items with higher quality ingredients, but I can afford to do so. When my husband and I were raising small kids, I could not have afforded to buy the brands/quality of ingredients that I buy now. For example, I was able to find 2 5 lbs of King Arthur Organic unbleached flour, so I bought them. Didn't even look at the price. Years ago, I wouldn't have been able to do it. The rest of the flour aisle was pretty much picked over with not many selections. Same with pasta and pasta sauces. I do not shop at Walmart so I'm not sure what selection they have in my area. |
