Food supply chains starting to crack under Covid-19.

Central France here, about an hour from Paris metro area.

Although I haven't set food in store since February, I've used the drive-in order service many times now. Usually about 10-30% of what I order is missing.

It can be anything from scrub brushes to boxed wine, to cheese, to vegetables. They pretty much just give you what they want and are mostly honest about it.

However in stores there are shortages. I've been speaking with a lot of friends here that have still continued to go into stores.

TP, eggs, flour, pasta, many fresh fruits and vegetables have been the first to go. Hand sanitizer, rubbing alcohol also very hard to get.

Certain imported fruits are now become more difficult to get: oranges, bananas, kiwis, etc.

Most of the foods produced in France seem to be doing okay. That's namely dairy products, wine and spirits, vegetables, potatoes, etc. Also you can source things locally, it's pretty easy outside of the city.

No shortages of coffee, tea or chocolate.

So it's not all doom and gloom, but certain things that we are used to getting easily become harder to find.

Of course having a garden or chicken coop at this time is a big plus. A lot of people in the area have been "too lazy" for the last few years, "not worth the time and effort" they said.

Um I’m NY and shelves are overflowing. Food supplies are full of food with a lot of restaurants closed. I was told from a supplier they lost 50% of their accounts and are overflowing with food. They cut their drivers with the lack of orders so some people may think there are shortages but they only deliver 3 days a week now.

Lott’s of food people eat up.

No problem getting food.

If you want doom and a reason to cower in your house like a whipped dog...well you can find lots of reasons.

The REAL run on the grocery stores will be next week when we get those stimulus checks. Us millions of poor horders haven't been able to stock up on food yet, but we will buy up the stores next week. We ride next week, poor horders.

Nebraska here. I've seen toilet paper more often in the past couple days than I have in the past month. The Walgreens had some at 8pm at night, which was highly unusual. Also been seeing a good supply of fresh fruits and veggies to, more than the past month.

I imagine the first thing to go when checks start pumping out is going to be the beer aisle lol.

Well, a lady who works for a food vendor here in n.e. Alabama told me about two weeks ago that they can't get things like tortillas...and she's out of work..no other details...im a cashier at Wal-Mart,and make it a point to ask as much as I can. I talk to many truckers who also say the supply line is slowing

Florida here, still no paper products anywhere, no way this is not a shortage.

they are only getting mini shipments that are gone I'm hour even with rationing.

one day when they actually did have shipment the package was shrunk by almost half, this was the so called double rolls

Middle Tennessee,ordered on-line from Kroger and got everything I wanted. And it was delivered 3 1/2 hours after I ordered it which was a big surprise that I would get it that quickly.


I didn't look for TP so don't know if they had it or not. Otherwise---they had it all.

i agree, things are slowing, even though they restocked too many empty patches.

there has been no hoarding for weeks yet sauce aisle almost empty, not even one ragu or prego here yesterday at publix

Also the JBS in grand island nebraska has 28 cases. Remains open.

The town of grand island nebraska has just over 100 cases with nearly 1/3 being JBS employees.

Unfortunately for low income shoppers, I'm seeing a lot of the less expensive brands are gone. I normally shop for less processed items with higher quality ingredients, but I can afford to do so. When my husband and I were raising small kids, I could not have afforded to buy the brands/quality of ingredients that I buy now. For example, I was able to find 2 5 lbs of King Arthur Organic unbleached flour, so I bought them. Didn't even look at the price. Years ago, I wouldn't have been able to do it. The rest of the flour aisle was pretty much picked over with not many selections.

Same with pasta and pasta sauces. I do not shop at Walmart so I'm not sure what selection they have in my area.

And think about it, we are only 4 weeks into this, what happens if it is back in the fall?

It's frightening to think about. I hope that people who can have their gardens going and have seeds to start in the fall (for those in the South who can have a fall garden).

All of the above is quite disturbing.

Wondering if OP would be willing to give a few examples of types of food product his factory produces... I don't need name brands, but I very well can't load up on everything. It would be helpful if I knew a certain type of product was facing a potential shortage.

I call bs, with all the hotels, restaurants, cafes and bars shut think of all the food not being used as normal.

I didnt think of that. I want to do one last run. When exactly do people get some money?

Most should receive their checks on the 15th,(Wed.). I just got back and The Local Walmart was 60% stocked, the local Harps was 50% stocked, both were rationing paper products and basic long shelf life items, the stocker told me that they get picked clean everyday by noon and are bracing for the wave of people they expect when the checks start coming in.

Do you think all of the new "control" measure at the grocery stores are a preparation for this expected rush? Reduced hours, limited access, marks on the floor telling you where to stand, one way traffic...the timing seems about right.
