If you think that it's stressed now then wait until millions of people get their stimulus checks this week, I'm going to two stores today and topping off my preps and my gas tank.

I didnt think of that. I want to do one last run. When exactly do people get some money?

PS...I love threads like this OP.

Most should receive their checks on the 15th,(Wed.). I just got back and The Local Walmart was 60% stocked, the local Harps was 50% stocked, both were rationing paper products and basic long shelf life items, the stocker told me that they get picked clean everyday by noon and are bracing for the wave of people they expect when the checks start coming in.
 Quoting: Storm2come

Thank you so much. I will go early Monday. We are well prepped to survive for months, but all the grocery store extras are a blessing. Little things like yoghurt and ricotta cheese, fresh milk, fresh meat. May get extra tea bags to last a couple years,

No point using up the doom stash until we have to. All the old doom like the grid down, earthquakes, grand solar minimum, etc, is still out there. This virus could just be the first birth pang, with harder to come.

Do you think all of the new "control" measure at the grocery stores are a preparation for this expected rush? Reduced hours, limited access, marks on the floor telling you where to stand, one way traffic...the timing seems about right.
 Quoting: Daniel Higdon

I expect panic buying leading to food riots, when the supply chain breaks down and people can't buy food even if they have money or an EBT card, a lot of people won't understand because they have no clue where their food comes from, and they will be mad and looking for someone to blame (other than themselves for not being aware)they will look at all of the food and think why can't I buy all I want.

don't forget seeds and gardening hand tools, If you can find cotton diapers get those also. My grand parents were raised in the 1920's they would use diapers instead of TP, and throw them in a half filled bucket of water and 20 mule team borax, to be washed dried and used again, they said it was better than using a corncob.

Supply chains starting to crack. I work for a major food processing plant in the midwest. Someone I work with has family that works at the factory who supplies all of our plastic products. This particular factory supplies our company with 30,000 cups and lids of all sizes every few days. Apparently that plant is shutting down for 28 days. This will disrupt our ability to distribute our food products at the plant I work at. As of now we will be down the next 3 days for fog disinfecting the entire plant for a 2nd week in a row. With this disruption we are expecting an additional week to two weeks of no production which will significantly impact walmarts and grocery stores across the region.

This is the real deal folks. Food manufacturing in the midwest are now seeing disruptions. You know what will follow. Will keep this thread updated. hiding

I disagree. The infrastructure is there to flip it back on. What will take time is consumer confidence. We need to get pass the virus hysteria.
 Quoting: Whispering~Vanity

The infrastructure is at home, collecting a government check and jerking off to porno. They will not be coming back anytime soon. The longer the machine is turned off, the harder it is to turn it on with every single business under debt stress and bankruptcy soon.

Not everyone has struggled in life on that kind of level like you tomatocruisewuflu

All jokes aside the federal government wont allow the infrastructure to collapse under these conditions. The steps taken may have inflicted serious damage but we are not quite there yet. Millions may be unemployed now and that is leading to trump considering opening thingas back up. If a 2nd wave of outbreaks hit, it will be catastrophic and leave only 2 choices. Allow it to run its course like in the UK initially or shut it down again which could destroy the american economy. Just my worthless 2 cents.

I just got back from the store. Had to do it as the delivery orders from Kroger and HEB kept showing up without the eggs, chicken, fish, ice cream, frozen orange juice.

Houston, west side - small, older neighborhood Kroger - most shoppers are within a few blocks - half of the neighborhood residents are over 50 yrs. old.

At 8:30 am it was busier than I've ever seen it in 10 years. Most items were well stocked - produce, bread, eggs, cheeses, canned goods, coffee, meats and fish, frozen foods and juices, ice cream, soft drinks, chips, pet foods. Also laundry cleaners.
Dish soap and other household cleansers in short supply. No toilet paper or paper towels. They did have facial tissues, so I bought a box. Also bought a pack of handi wipes towels in place of paper towels.

The in store pharmacy was closed.

New cashier in my lane was very abrupt, not friendly as I'm used to - the clerk bagging my groceries was a regular, made up for the cashier's attitude. No one working in store wore masks. Most shoppers did.
And the taxi driver was so very nice, waited for me to shop without charging extra - and carried things upstairs for me. Made my day.

It is not a big deal. Currently there is not a big demand for these products anyways. Schools are shut down and people are dining out less.

Yes, food is being thrown out too. But that has been going on already. Only the food usually reached school kids first. The kids ate what they liked and threw the rest away...tons of it. Even milk too, which most kids don't drink anymore unless it is chocolate, the kids were forced to put on their food trays. Which actually, most kids opt for juice.

Just did the shopping, the store was fully stocked ... well okay, they were low on Pasta.

The supply lines aren't breaking down, there is just an over stock in the pipeline due to the restaurants being closed. Produce going to waste is that that was earmarked for the restaurant market.

NYC here. Manhattan, upper East side.

Certainly tough to find open grocery stores here.

But, at least for right now, FoodKick has been great, really reliable (hint: go on the App at midnight to get the best times for the day after the next.)
Lots of choices.

We are not starving at all.

Short on:
Hand Sanitizer,
Paper Towels

But everything else is pretty good.

Washing down the delivery before bringing into the apartment. Leaving the delivery bags out, and throwing them away.

Re: Food supply chains starting to crack under Covid-19.
I work as a data collection analyst for a major company. So its my job to search through reports for four to five hours every night and everything I read makes me want to shit in my pants.

Just tonight I read an article about Canadian farmers warning about potential food shortages because they couldn't get migrant labors in order to plant crops.

But that is just one example.

Other examples in the turd world countries is that the governments aren't allowing the farmers to ship their products to markets. So the crops are basically rotting in the field.

Or another example I saw the other night is that the EU returned a shipment back to Uruguay of about 1,200 lbs of premium meats due to lack of demand. i.e. meat that normally goes to expensive restaurants and hotels.

Or another example I saw a couple of days ago where cocoa farmers are facing hardships because the cost of cocoa is dropping below the cost that it takes for them to grow it.

And another example that I read that there were two major meat packers in the country that had to close down in order to sanitize the place because a worker got diagnosed with covid. Let me ask you how can businesses keep doing this and stay in business with a disease like this especially when sanitizing chemicals are in short supply? Imagine a company owner and having to close for 48 hours every few days.

So please people if you haven't started preparations you better. Don't be like the fuck tards that think this is gonna get better because it won't. Think about it for a second. They are using this virus as an excuse to shut down the worlds economy, and they are letting prisoners lose in order to create a crisis like the world has never seen before.

Imagine how desperate people will get when unemployment reaches over 30% and there are no government checks coming to feed you or your children. Now add a bunch of criminal scum that had no issue robbing, raping and killing during the best of times but now its the worst of times.. wtf do you think those criminals will be doing?

Think long and hard. Trump is the only one talking about getting rid of the lockdowns soon. Where as the Democrats and the media the only thing they know is lock it down and those fuckers are talking about locking us down till sometime in June. News flash this shit has only been going on for a few weeks and unemployment has jumped to 14 percent and at this level states are having difficulty paying for those benefits. But when it reaches 30% the states won't have money nor will you be able to find a job.

So if you have money do whatever you can to prepare even if its picking up some more pasta, beans and rice at the grocery store each time you visit. And if you have a job and overtime is available snag up as much as you can handle because that job might not be there in a couple more months.

Yes. The limits on items as well as the limits on shoppers will help them keep up but it doesn’t represent the full demand. Lines will get longer and tempers will get shorter.

I wonder if we will see u expected places start to sell some food items such as Lowe’s and Home Depot?

Some restaurants are already selling direct - Panera and Waffle House.

It is my son’s birthday so I let him pick what he wanted for dinner. Daughter doesn’t like Chinese so I went to two places. McDonalds and Panda Express.

Both locations had very limited menus and both had an extra sheet of glass that came down 3/4 of the drive thru window opening. It was like going to an inner city 7/11.

I assume the menu items available are more profitable and also have overall more availability from the supply side.

Agreed! After some thought on that very subject the day after I started the thread and the anxiety I was creating for myself, all in an attempt to "warn" others, I decided to hold back from proceeding any further.

So I have decided not to update this thread. I did what I thought was right sharing whats going on where I live. To continue be relaying information would only add to fear without any solutions to make things better.

There are going to be obvious disruptions. Not going to play into fear any further hf

Luke 9:23-25 "If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. For whoever will save his life shall lose it: but whoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it. For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away?"

Re: Food supply chains starting to crack under Covid-19.
DELMARVA – A chicken company on Delmarva will be killing nearly two million chickens and not processing them for food because staffing is down amidst the COVID-19 pandemic and the plant can’t keep up. 47 ABC confirmed the report on Friday with Delmarva Poultry Industry Inc., although they would not say which company was behind the move.
