Kentucky To Record License Plates At Church Services, Quarantine Car Occupants

Kentucky State Police will record the license plate numbers of cars in church parking lots for in-person services and turn the owners’ names over to local health departments, which will issue 14-day quarantine orders, according to an April 10 press release from the governor’s office.

Wonder how they will enforce the 14 day quarantine orders? Will there be police officers posted outside the residence of those church going "criminals?"

Gov. Beshear said Kentucky State Police will be recording the license plate numbers of any vehicle seen at the gatherings. Local health officials then will contact the people associated with those vehicles and require them to self-quarantine for 14 days.

“Folks, we shouldn’t have to do this,” the Governor said. “What we’re asking is for you to love your neighbor as yourself. We shouldn’t have to do this.”

Re: Kentucky To Record License Plates At Church Services, Quarantine Car Occupants
I guess these rogue church goers will have to sign the self quarantine agreement, and if they later break quarantine they will have to wear an ankle monitor. While the article linked below isn't talking specifically about the church attendees, it does explain how Kentucky handles enforced quarantines.

Four Kentucky residents have been slapped with wearing court-ordered ankle monitoring bracelets for violating an agreement with doctors to quarantine after being diagnosed or exposed to someone with a positive case of novel coronavirus, according to court documents.

<snip>

After patients are seen by a healthcare provider, a "Self-isolation/Self-quarantine and Controlled Movement Agreed Order" is signed. Included in the 10-part agreement obtained by ABC News, it states, "I acknowledge that if I cannot or will not comply with all of the control measures listed . . . LMPHW shall obtain a court order from Jefferson County Circuit Court to enforce the terms of the agreed order."

I can't believe how bad it is there. Surely most people in Kentucky don't think this is a good idea. I hope they will put a stop to this governmental overreach.

That's ridiculous. But it's also ridiculous for people to continue attending services with no regard for anyone else's safety. Especially when many churches have already voluntarily switched to live streaming.

How is it any different from "essential" people going to work? How is it any different from people going to the grocery store? Why is nourishment for the body more important than nourishment for the soul?

I won't be attending church service this Sunday but that should be my choice, not the government's choice.

The government shouldn't restrict it and I bet there will be a lot of lawsuits in the future. However just because you can do something doesn't mean you should. I saw a video where a woman claimed she wouldn't get sick and couldn't infect anyone else because "I'm protected by the blood of Jesus". People like that are idiots.

Refuse To Obey Governmental Demands or Commands.

Force Concessions From The Government.

Civil disobedience has been a major tactic and philosophy of nationalist movements in Africa, India, the American civil rights movement, labor, anti-war, and other social movements in many countries.

Civil disobedience is the most effective form of rebellion.

Stand Up Against Oppression Now.

Good article by Andrew McCarthy at National Review. I don't always agree with him, but I do believe he makes some good points in this one:

There is a lot going on that no one has consented to. The law is beside the point. The state and its police need the public’s cooperation. They won’t get it by coercion. If they can’t get cooperation because they’ve forfeited their legitimacy by capricious, politicized enforcement . . . well, there are worse things that can happen than a pandemic.

Taking license plates at church? Quarantining someone for being Christian on Easter Sunday? Someone needs to take a step back here.

At least the AG is doing the right thing...

FRANKFORT, Ky. (April 10, 2020) – Attorney General Daniel Cameron today released the following statement regarding the prohibition of drive-in church services during the COVID-19 pandemic:

“We are aware that some Kentucky jurisdictions are discussing a prohibition of drive-in church services for the upcoming Easter holiday. As long as religious groups and worshippers are complying with current Centers for Disease Control (“CDC”) recommendations for social distancing to slow the spread of COVID-19, we see no problem with these drive-in services occurring.

Religious organizations should not be treated any differently than other entities that are simultaneously conducting drive-through operations, while also abiding by social distancing policies. As long as Kentuckians are permitted to drive through liquor stores, restaurants, and other businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic, the law requires that they must also be allowed to participate in drive-in church services, consistent with existing policies to stop the spread of COVID-19.

We must all continue to work together and do our part to fight back against COVID-19. However, individuals who wish to celebrate religious holidays using a format that follows social distancing policies and CDC guidelines should not be unnecessarily banned from doing so.”

Thanks for posting this. I didn't see a link in your post, but I think this is it: [link to kentucky.gov (secure)]

Yes, sounds like the AG has more sense than the governor. I cannot believe it's to the point where they are discussing whether or not churches can have drive in services and that the AG has to make a statement about it. This seems to be an issue in other states as well.

You don’t need a church to love and worship God. The true ‘house of God’ is within your own Heart and Soul, not a material building.

That being said, going to church should be your choice, not theirs! I wonder if they’re arresting muslims and Japan for going to church, or just Christians?

I agree with the bolded part. As for the other, I don't know how the government servants are handling other religions. It seems likely that Protestant Evangelicals are being targeted. The Catholic church will follow the Pope's lead. IMO, the Protestant evangelical Christians are being targeted because they are usually independent and do not have such a structured formal organization. They are the least likely to take orders from outside entities.
