Giant Comets May Pose a Danger…SomedayLess than 50% A team of astronomers from the University of Buckingham and the Armagh Observatory (Bill Napier and Duncan Steel of the University of Buckingham and Mark Bailey and David Asher of Armagh) published a review of recent research they conducted…the results may shock you. Apparently, hundreds of giant comets have been making their way (and continue to do so) into our solar system over the last couple of decades, meaning the risk of one landing here on Earth has increased. These giant space rocks called, Centaurs, used to be spinning around the outer reaches of our solar system, but because they are now encountering the gravitational forces of the larger planets (Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune) they are occasionally being deflected into the path of Earth.
