Minnesota Pork Plant Shuts Down After Outbreak Among Workers Quoting: Goneviral Worthington, Minnesota, facility will wind down operations Shutdowns spur concerns about shortages in grocery stores JBS SA, the world’s top meat company, will shutter its pork processing facility in Minnesota following an outbreak of coronavirus, adding to concerns that slaughterhouse logjams will tighten meat supplies for consumers. The Worthington, Minnesota, facility will wind down operations over two days to ensure existing product in the facility can be used to support food supply, JBS said Monday. The move comes after seven workers tested positive for the virus and officials from the Minnesota Department of Health said Friday the number will likely rise. No date was given for a reopening. The closure means more that a 10% of U.S. hog slaughtering capacity is down. [link to www.USE_FULL_LINKwww.bloomberg.com (secure)] E pluribus unum |

The next big issue unfolding is the shuttering of the nation's food plants could drive food inflation sky high. On Wednesday, Tyson Fresh Meats, the beef and pork subsidiary of Tyson Foods, released a statement that said its plant in Waterloo, Iowa, will suspend operations until further notice. The company said the Waterloo location is its largest pork plant, has been running at reduced output "due to worker absenteeism." E pluribus unum |

I do agree to a certain degree with what you say. We must respect all fauna and flora as much as we respect ourselves. Problem is that in order to do that we have to learn to respect ourselves and each other. What bothers me is not so much the need to feed on animals - which can be understood due to genetics and the fact that we all feed on each other in a way or another - but the over consumerism which brings us to the point where the life of beings are terminated not even for the necessity of feeding but for the the necessity of money. Poor beings killed and thrown to trash... not being respected even as food. The level of abuse is overwhelming. |
