Indeed, being aware of the control mechanisms is the only way to know if one is hooked by the comfort they provide, tethered to it in a sense. That is where the pervasive paradoxical nature of the experience comes in. When we are hooked by a control mechanism, we feel to be in control. In the big picture, though, we hand control over to the mechanism so long as we do not remove the tether.

The problem as I see it ado with much of today's society is that few do as you described and follow a pure heart when it comes to what they do. They look to others' descriptions of the symbolic meaning behind their actions and thus rely on belief in another's interpretations, surrendering their personal power to the schemes of some other.

I don't think we were intended to interpret blindly, yet nor do I think any were made to blindly follow another's interpretations. That's what many look to - a hero, teacher, messiah, or leader to stand in the shadow of. Lots of narratives ado with the degradation of anarchism.

Taking the steps, yes indeed. Most efficiently with a seed planted with each one taken. That would be perfection, so treat a heart with impunity for any lazy seedling free steps so long as none others are trampled on by them.
