I can't possibly know the parties but one party chased the other to tiamat and blew the planet up, which is asteroid belt, and either the fleers had fled to earth to where the chasers said we ain't gonna waste time chasing these fools underground, we'll just quarantine earth...

Which begs the question... Why was earth spared and tiamat not spared?
