Re: Is this the doom you wanted?
It's close to sunset, I put the hens back in the run, and am sitting outside watching them. My kids are running around the yard, and hubby is tinkering with his truck. I still hear the same amount of traffic in the distance. Other than YT and glp, I wouldn't know that anything has changed.

This morning I woke up because I heard the sound of an explosion, and I immediately focused on the sound of my fan to see if it was still running. I've also been dreaming of bombs and wasteland.

I didn't want virus doom, I didn't think it would actually happen because... modern medicine. I wanted Yellowstone doom, or sun doom, or zombies.... It's easier to survive that than a virus. Though I suppose that depends on the type of sun doom. At this point, I don't even care if I don't survive, but I was hoping to see the other side. Where there is no modern day slavery, or competition for the best position. Just living off the land...

Did you get the doom you wanted?

How often do things work out in a way that you foresee?

Not that often, really. My mental images have been in line with yours. Just this morning, I woke up and the first thing I checked as I came out of the haze of sleep, was the ceiling fan. Lately though, I'm starting to think what happens will come in a way we won't have thought of. This slow motion SHTF feels like one of those ways.

We usually think of the big doom as happening overnight. We wake up and things have changed. There's no power. The electronics are all fried from EMP. There's an explosion followed by the rising crescendo of screaming, terrified voices, as the destruction spreads from a nuclear blast, or something else.

But, I don't think it will happen that way, and what has happened recently suggests that. Will there be a moment when things drop off, and it's clear the S has Hit The Fan? Probably not. At the most, we'll wake up one morning and realize it's happened, but you won't be able to put your finger on exactly when.

Our minds are usually too linear to imagine all the intricacies of reality. I think we'll eventually get to an image you can hold in your mind, it just won't happen in a minute.

Unless it does.

I think you're probably right. I feel like we are going down with the ship and there are no lifeboats left. Slow motion doom is the worst doom.

Agree. To overextend your metaphor, we ARE going down with the ship, and I think we are all watching for the launching of the lifeboats to signify that it's on.

While there are lifeboats, they're made out of paper mache, and don't detatch from the ship. They're for show. Thare are, however, lifesubmarines, but we don't really know if they've been launched, or not. If they haven't been launched, we won't know when they are. Many of us have no idea about the lifesubmarines, and are comforted by the fake lifeboats.

EDIT: After hitting "save," the screen refreshed and I saw a post from Apocalypticfiction that said the same thing as above, but probably better. Wasn't copying. We were just writing at the same time, and he/she was a little quicker.

Not at all! I appreciate your thoughts and insight. It’s funny to hear other people mentioning that they check for signs that the power is down in the morning - I thought that was just me!
