Doing a crash course in goats and chickens. Holy fuck. Wanted to do this anyway, but now we're doing it all at once. Two Nigerian dwarf goats, one is two years, away from a larger herd. The other, two months; we've been bottle feeding her. Got the first round of Dr morning her today..gotta do it in two steps because her horns are kinda big at two months old. Poor baby. Got two rounds of chickens living in a fucking bedroom. The teens are SO ready to go outside, but we don't have a coop yet. Chicks are selling out fast around here, so we had to get them while we could. Animals first then infrastructure. FUCK. It's exhausting. Thought we would have more casualties in the chicks. But we 've only had two. We over bought. Lololol!!! And the goats have scurvy now. Two city kids throwing this together as fast as we can. My little lap dog is SO glad I am inside and resting right now! We wanted to do this anyway, but not this fast!! Holy fuck!! It's working so far, but I am exhausted, and the house is trashed, as well as the yard.5a

It's wine o'clock. I homeschooled today, my children alternated between playing and arguing, discovered my teen made my younger daughter an account on a social media profile she doesn't need, broke more garden ground with a pickaxe, let the chickens out of the run, chased them out of the established garden for the next many hours....Then I sat in the yard and literally cried because (of anger) the world has gone to shit, and I'm the only one in my family who seems to care if we eat this fall.

So I'm going to spend the rest of the evening refreshing glp, and drinking, and hoping you guys post some profound stuff.

What did you do today?

Its ok Chicken Lady. You are not alone. I like chickens and have many...they will ruin everything if you don’t protect what you have. Its not easy if you pasture raise your birds. Put up poultry netting around everthing.damned

Ugh, yes, I didn't let them out last year (our first year here) but it's so bare in the run other than the straw, and our yard was seeded with weeds. So I figured it would cut down on feed and yardwork if I let them out. But we are out of wire, so I have to chase them out of two garden areas. Hopefully we can get some tomorrow. Incidentally, I figured out how awesome it is to try to eat a sandwich outside with chickens running around, lol.
 Quoting: Crazy Chicken Lady

Have you tried sprinkling tasty grain where you'd LIKE them to go (i.e., NOT the garden areas)? Also, if you try to feed them in the late afternoon at about the same time (and include the day's vegetable peelings, stale bread, and other "treats" along with their supper) they'll be in the chicken yard waiting for you after a few days.

Dried mealworms. It's like chicken crack.

Our hens know the sound of the shed door opening where the mealworms are. They hunt me down LOL.

I searched for my damn nylon braided spark cable for my dji spark to no avail. I ended up ordering a new one off of amazon at 6 pm. It won’t get here until Monday so that means I won’t be able to make a movie until Wednesday because I’m going to need the entire day of Tuesday to hone my drone piloting skills.

I consumed about 1000 mgs. of caffeine today so there won’t be any alcohol consumption tonight or any night because I gave up alcohol 15 years ago. I may end up taking 20 mgs. of Cialis at 9 pm though.
 Quoting: rahijo3

Well, I want to say it sucks that you can't drink, but congrats for quitting. I only just started a year ago, lol.
 Quoting: Crazy Chicken Lady

I do start threads on this forum about drinking though. I live smack dab in the middle of the wine country. Jeopardy’s cancelled due to the NFL draft. Why is this on? I thought that football had been cancelled.
 Quoting: rahijo3

I never liked wine until I moved to a place where I had to drive an hour to buy jack. Why is the NFL still having a draft as scheduled? Jeopardy is way more relevant.

- made 3 kinds of salad with eggs, trying to use up excess eggs
- hung new porch tv - worked on programming it.
- drove golf cart to check on dewberry patch - and then to get mail - also stopped and chatted with neighbor - and also chatted with more neighbors in road - trying to keep 6 ft. but they seem to get closer and closer - so bam road off.
- shopped amazon and a couple other stores and placed orders
- gave dog a summer haircut.
- checked on seeds to see if sprouted

I slept all damn day. agumball

Was awake all darn night in agonizing pain from attempting to do the types of thing you say your doing (started over three days ago, still not done).

Attempting to put an orchard and garden in, but grooming the land to receive it requires some hard physical labor that I simply can't achieve alone, with my disability.

Pisses me off to no end. Pain level has been off the chart, making me quite salty. grumpy2

I took the whole day off yesterday, while other family burned (in the rain) slash I piled, from thinning brush and trees.

Nearly ready to plant, but getting there.......has been a bitch!

Last bit of snow, finally melted two days ago.

Poor dog is on the chain until I finish moving his dog run, which is only half done. It was in the way. Sis dumped the dog on us when she moved out of state. His name is Eximo, but I call him Mexico, because we didn't ask for another mouth to feed. He is a good dog though.

Im gonna take a hot shower, a few narco pills and attempt to go back to sleep for another 10 hours, maybe.

I Hope Friday is better.hayseed

Swapped the lumber rack from my 97 Dodge Ram onto my 2017 Ram.

Changed out the master cylinder on my 69 Charger and while attempting to bleed the brakes, snapped off the bleeder nipple. Now I have to tear the right front drum brakes apart to replace the wheel cylinder.....

 Quoting: ))) CHL2T (((

Took my 97 Ram to lowes for lumber. Darn good truck.

Today started with pruning back my pitcher plants (nepenthes ventricosa), then built a new rack to hold all my venus flytrap planters. Right before lunch, I got back to re roofing my brothers house, rain has finally abated for a few days so I'm finishing the second half. Found some rotten decking which required the use of the ol' Goat (my Ram) to get decking and some drip edge to replace the sticks that were too buggered up to reuse.

How many miles you got on your 97 Ram? Mine is at 115K miles on the original drivetrain, it sat abandoned in a cow pasture for a decade before it was given to me. Took a good bit of work to get it running again and I'm about to have to rebuild the front end (ball joints, tie rods, king arm, grease boots, and steering box). Oldie but a goodie. Just two weeks ago I hauled all 82 bundles of shingles for doing my brothers roof in one trip. Over 2 tons in a 1500 series, WAAAY overloaded but the ol' Goat made the 15 mile haul and barely heated up.
 Quoting: Hiram's Apprentice

Jeez, don't get me started on the 97!
136,000 on it currently
This thing was a lemon from day one (10/1996)!
Transmission rebuilt twice under warrantee, engine replaced at 60,000 under 7-76000 warrantee. Rebuilt that engine 5 years ago, smashed it into a ford 150 taking a left turn. Brought it home and replaced the fender, headlights, various front end parts and the steering box. Now it's making a hell of a racket under the hood, hopefully just the water pump though.
Now it's just the weekend driver

I like physical labor, for the most part. Idk why though. But I'm sure I won't be able to move hardly tomorrow. I'm used to sitting in the house or on the porch. My husband is still working, so I don't ask him to do much through the week. But we need to get this garden tilled. I'm as sure of it as I was sure we were running out of time to buy a house and move out of the tin can. I hope tomorrow is better too. Or this weekend. Maybe I can get it all prepped to plant.

Re: It's been a long day. Did you do anything interesting?
I'm a sucker for these kind of threads.

Woke up, coffee, walked the dog in the rain.

Email, GLP, web browsing, a bit of work.

Home schooled a kid who'd rather fuck around on YT and game on the tablet, but who after some help and encouragement ended up writing a most excellent essay.

Marveled, yet again, how Chicago teachers managed to pull off a successful strike this year and got a massive raise and who are now doing mostly squat.

Walked the dog, smiled at few people in the park but couldn't tell if they were giving me dirty looks because I wasn't wearing a mask.

Wife, dog, kid and I did a grocery pick up that had half our order in stock then decided not to go in the store because there was a 100 person long line. Wondered why there was a line to get in if everyone was already wearing masks.

Drove 30 minutes to another store with no line and better stock. Pulled my mask down because I could barely breath. Listened to the bagger lady tell me how healthy it is to microwave asparagus then warned me that my mask was not covering my nose.

Left and said hello to the cop who was now standing guard at the entrance.

Felt like I needed an hour in disinfection chamber.

A bit of work. GLP.

Made a huge ass ham and veggie fried rice dinner because the local Chinese take out went out of business.

Poured a gin and tonic with lime because Beefeater was on a nice sale.

Played some foosball with the kid.

Went on family dog walk, wondered why people feel the need to walk around at night wearing mask. Dog got wind of an in-heat lady dog then got super pissed when we wanted to go home.

Another gin. Some work.

Shared too much on GLP, cookie, about to watch some TV on the new 75".

Still working doing residential maintenance.

Staff picks up $2 Margaritas in drive thru to go everyday since our office is locked to public.

Saw 4 motorcycle cops pulling over people from the few people that are even on the road on way to work.

Grocery store today fully stocked.. Central Tx.

Big name Gym here is now closed permanently... Usually packed there.

Several restaurants won't place orders over the phone unless you have a credit card number first.. No cash

Hundreds of hidden lakes/rivers to go to since mainstream ones are closed.

New Gigantic indoor water park still scheduled to open up.. .. We'll see...
