You know when a person starts a comment with I'm a good christian it's all downhill from there.

First off your behavior and your knew jerk reactions to your son are not christian like. Not at all. Shame on you.

You are a horrible mother. You threw away his Harry Potter books. They could have had a value of thousands of dollars each. You dolt.

I'm pretty sure god is up in heaven playing Fortnite as I type.

You keep acting the way you do there will come a day your son will NEVER speak to you again and don't play victim when that day comes.

Re: Fortnite is taking my child from me... PLEASE HELP
I'm a dedicated Christian, and judging by what I've seen on television, Fortnite is a game full of violence, slavery and abuse. Forcing creatures to fight for their own entertainment is appalling and I cannot believe it's rated for child
ren. I can also not believe it has been going on for years, causing evil to spread.
Yesterday, my son asked what I was fearing. He asked for a Fortnite membership, I was shocked, because I knew my sister let her sons play that dreadful game, and my sister is dim and does not follow in Gods footsteps.
I told him no and immediately sent him to his room. I then phoned my pastor and he recommended steering my son away from that awful game. My son is 11 years old and he has become very cold with me ever since I said no. He called me insane, which is a reflect of what the game can do to a child.
I will not allow any kind of things in my house that are in any way offending God. I threw away all my sons Harry Potter books and forbidden him from watching the movies.
I am a good mother, and any parent who lets their kids play Fortnite, will grow up with a power obsessed, violent child worshiping Satan. Evolution is also in the game, which is against Gods words. it is disgraceful and should be banned.
My son has insulted me ever since this has happened. He told me his friends play Fortnite so I have told him he is not allowed near them again. It is causing a drift between our family. I have told my son various times that he will go to Hell if he plays Fortnite but the message is not sinking in.

I fear Satan is taking him from me

You are telling your child that he will go to hell for playing a video game with his friends?
 Quoting: EllenRipley

I agree. That’s a bit much. My son went through a heavy video game period. He doesn’t play as much now.

Re: Fortnite is taking my child from me... PLEASE HELP
VCR's came along when I was a teenager. If my Mom heard on curse word worse that "damn" off the movie went. She let us play the radio and if she heard "Life in the Fast Lane" or "She's So Cold" (both have the GD word in them) it was "turn that radio off right now". I once bought a 45 record of Alice Cooper's "I Never Cry" on the flip side was the song "Go to Hell". Record was gone.

Parents need to actually parent. Mine both kept us on the straight and narrow and I am thankful they did.

Re: Fortnite is taking my child from me... PLEASE HELP
raised my son alone after divorce
in the Word
home-schooled
healthy food
great life full of beach/walks under the stars/symphonies etc
he just graduated top of his college class.
he has one addiction:
video games.

If I made one mistake, it was buying his first console. Buying so many video games. The battle to keep him in age appropriate games as he grew was hell for me.

my only criticism is that you told him he would go to hell.
the Word says: 'judge not'
I believe we can set rules in the home as parents of a minor child and still 'judge not'
show him the LOVE of Christ in your words and behavior.
yes, this is scary for you, I know.
but work to do that
perfect LOVE casts out fear. Prophecy a future blessing over him.

I battled the battle you are going thru very alone.
No one was there for me but God's grace.
I understand how alone you feel. Just reach out for His grace and mercy in your words and actions
and set boundaries.
You have a right to choose what's in your home.

What's hard for you is the lack of support a single mom in our world gets.James 1:27
But, fight with the Word and I will be praying for you.

If I could change one thing about how I raised my son, it would be video games.
There is an entrainment in them that causes great hostility toward the parent.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78548234

ALL other forms of current entertainment are MORE SUBVERSIVE than video games. Be it books, movies, Netflix, TV.

So think about that, when you force your child away from video games, which still require some amount of THINKING.

I guess you could make them read books more than 50 years old, or watch movies from the mid 60s.

Re: Fortnite is taking my child from me... PLEASE HELP
Be the PARENT. Limit the child's usage of gaming systems.
You don't like the game? Then don't let them play it.

My kid has an Xbox.
I use the parental controls built into the platform.
I can control the hours of the day that he can use it.
I can limit the total amount of daily time he can use it.

He thought he was a smart guy, and created a secret account. I put his Xbox on the "guest" network and use the scheduling feature in my router to shut it off. I set passwords on all the other networks from the same router so he can't connect.

If you have Xfinity/Comcast they have parental controls too.

I let my kids "earn" extra game time by doing extra studying, getting good grades, various chores, or other behaviors I want to promote.

One of my kids was raging at Fornite after losing and he broke his headset. He had to wait until his birthday to get enough money to buy a new one. If I hear him swearing or banging things, Boom.. I shut off the wifi.

Op is likely a troll but in case it’s real here’s my advice as a former gamer.

Vg are addictive, especially for kids. Don’t rip away an addiction but rather accept they will sink time into it. Use it as a way to bond with them. Negotiate with him on the membership, limit his time per week on condition that you’ll buy him one.

Unfortunately vg are more stimulating and enjoyable than school, church, extracurriculars, family dinners etc, you will just have to accept that, maybe next time not exposing them to it at all so they can learn to appreciate the mundanities of life.

You are destroying this relationship with your actions. You have not tried to understand his perspective or his world, which is different from your world in your childhood. You act based on fear, rather than compassion. You try to program him with fear and you will only drive him away.

You should play fort nite with him. Be with him. Relate to him. Connect first, and then you might be surprised to find him listening to you.

That is, if you want to have a relationship with him in his older years whereas the trend you are describing likely results in him moving out of the house, away from you and away from the church.

fortnites a fun game, and it’s free! You sound more like a satan possesses person than ANYTHING I’ve ever encountered in the game. I pray for your son that you seek help for your paranoid delusions. My roomate has a mom with similar symptoms as you, and they had to go live with their grandparents when she snapped and tried to kill them with a butcher knife because she was convinced they were possessed by the devil. True story, nobody got hurt, but that could have easily not been the case your son is fine, you need help. Please don’t be ashamed or afraid to seek it.
