Quoting: Mental Case Why are we selling to China instead of feeding our own people? Nationalize the food industry already. Oh, the socialists are working on nationalizing everything, what do you think is going to happen to all the small restaurants or businesses that are shut down indefinitely? |

Got some good looking steaks, some chicken, she said stock was fine just prices were higher than she was used to. Produce on the other hand was not great. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 78785509 United States 04/26/2020 08:56 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | My store has some items barely stocked. Quoting: Nonentity Canned fruit is not available except for a few off types. Paper isle once bare now stocked with large packs of restaurant style napkins in place of TP and paper towels. Brawny, over priced, a dozen packs of 6 perpetually available. Cheese is stocked thin. Meat is WAY expensive. From the week they started dumping milk to keep the price up, I noticed there was no butter in the store. I haven't seen it at any store in 3 weeks. Why didn't the milk people sell it to the butter and cheese people? It seems like this is being engineered shortages. Instead of killing a bunch of chicken because of no processors they'd just free range them until they can get a few more employees hired to to reopen. They have it figured how long they want to buy chicken feed and no more they could figure work arounds where instead of processing so many en masse that they would do so in more manageable lots, based on employee capacity. Same with others. They are probably being ordered to cull them, dump this, destroy that knowing that we will have food shortages and riots not too far down the road. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 78845555 United States 04/26/2020 08:59 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I will tell you. No one wants to say it out loud but it's because (around here anyway) it is nearly fully staffed with illegal immigrants. They buy ss #s to work under but it's not a secret they're not legal. Plus, listen to what these jerks were doing. They had people coming into work with fevers, and slapped a mask on them and sent them back out onto the line. I don't know whether they don't know about the social distancing stuff because of a language barrier or if they just flat won't do it, but they do not follow the rules (shocker, I know considering if they valued such things they wouldn't be here to begin with). So now, my rural barely populated county has one of the highest rates of infection because of 2 meat plants and their sketchy hiring practices. Edit to add: The employees had no choice, they can't just go get a job anywhere so they are desperate to keep this job. These plants are very strict and will fire them immediately if they don't do as they're told. Yeah, I've heard about all the illegals at the plants, but then again, how do we know that someone didn't plant COVID in the plant OR, how serious are the cases, are you getting any word on that? I mean this is like war, they're attacking our food supply. Remember all the evidence of Chinese coming through our southern borders? Remember the shipments of sick birds that came in from China???? |

(OP) User ID: 77232079 United States 04/26/2020 09:08 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I’m a meat cutter in Louisiana. I’ll try the explain the best I can. Stores are still running some low price sales as availability dictates. We typically run out of half the sale items midweek with no re-stock. Grocery chains are fighting for the reserves. That’s what we are functioning on, reserves. Quoting: MKPitBull Most of the “fresh” chicken and pork we’ve been getting in over the past month is frozen rock solid, like concrete. We have to thaw the pork for two days just to be able to break apart to cut. Beef is not as bad, still some items frozen or looks like older stock. Prices will continue Togo up across the board but stores will still run “ hook” specials. Don’t expect that to last , even for a full week that the ad gets run. Most of the higher ups run the ads without a full knowledge of even if they can cover it and let the in-store employees deal with the complaints. My advice, get and stock up on what you can NOW as far as meat. If a sale starts on a Wednesday or Thursday, get it then, if they have it. Don’t wait till the end of the sale week. Even if you get a raincheck, there’s no telling when an excess of that product will come in. Some will still be a available in the coming months but prices will go through the roof. It’s already happening across the board. Just because your market has great sales this week, it doesn’t mean it’ll be like that forever. Take care. Wow, thanks for the breakdown. Do you know why you're functioning on reserves only? Is it because of plant shut downs or was it an overall shortage due to floods in Nebraska last year or something like that? Here's the problem, many livestock were lost in the last couple years over many states. Due alot to weather, floods, diseases. Especially last year. So .. what we are functioning on is what should have been sold gradually this year and into next. We're basically behind a year instead of a ahead. Last year suppliers were devastated and are depending on this year to rebound. With all the crap with covid, umm, not gonna happen. Just made things worse. There may be some local butchers in your area still able to get from local farms. That'd be the best route for constant meat. Thanks for update, I know we have some places north of here that will sell half a cow, etc, all cut up, maybe I should track them down. |

I think that's why they're doing the arrows and corral thing is it will make military food distribution easier. With oil going into negative territory and Saudi sending more oil over, and threatening to sell oil in other currencies, I see war on horizon. |

This weekend, no meat. Every bit of fresh meat I ordered was unavailable. Quoting: JadeDone Well, that's very intriguing, but unsettling. Do they put on backorder? No, they won't backorder. They won't even let you edit your order before delivery. I've no doubt they're trying. I've seen others saying they can find meat in the PNW. Maybe my luck will be different if I risk a trip. |

Sneezing from allergies. All suspect. I know what you mean. Anonymous Coward User ID: 75993659 Canada 04/26/2020 09:36 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Today at Publix I noticed once again the seafood, fine steak counter totally empty, THIS TIME, there is a note that says: Quoting: Keilani "Due to availability of product we have closed this servce case until further notice." So, my friends, this is not a "hoarding" issue, these are high ticket items that they cannot get. What's really odd about this is with ALL the restaurants here that case should be awash in seafood and steak! There's no shortages in stores in this region except for big brand name flour. Everything is stocked. |

Quoting: Keilani And my eyes get red from allergies, also worry that people will act weird about that, I always say, oh, just allergies, cuz it is, but people are getting so weird. Long before Covid-19, I'd avoid people who appeared to have a cold. I'd get irritated when some of them would be way too casual about coming to work or walking around in public. At least if they financially and technically could have easily stayed at home. Regardless of a pandemic or not, I've long disliked it when people in public sneeze and don't try to keep it restricted to a tissue or away from others. Moreover, suspended human spit in the air stinks, so aerosoled germs has always been a known dynamic to me. Now in this era of SARS-CoV-2, whether it's me or others, no way do I want to be out in public with the sniffles and sneezes. |
