User ID: 77076210 United States 04/27/2020 12:11 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Picked up 4 NY strip steaks for $32 yesterday. Lots of good cuts available in my area. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77391763 Yes, we have some in the main meat area, and actually prices have been really good, my concern is looking ahead, the fact that the meat service counter is permanently closed, and they SAY it's a supply issues is huge, even though yes, I can still get steak in the main meat area. Once again, I see this is another ploy to look like they have more than they do. They're spreading it all out in the meat area, along with the "restaurant" style meat, and yes, now looks very full. BUT what would meat area look like without the service area being closed and the added "Sysco" meats. Also, concerning is all this talk of meat processors shutting down, I think they closed the "cased" meat counter to make it look fuller in non-cased meats. Dude I said the same thing here a few weeks ago. They are spreading meats out very thinly over a large area to make it look well stocked. They're using different packaging (thought that might have to do with China), cutting chicken in half it looks like to make it look larger(optics), putting hotdogs and other things were thered normally be pork. Also pork prices are shooting up. What used to be 2.49 a lb is like 5.19 now. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 77066300 United States 04/27/2020 12:13 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Southern California here. No paper products at all...napkins, toilet paper, or paper towels and those aisles have been empty for over a month. The cleaning supplies aisle is empty and hasn't been restocked for about 2 weeks. Eggs are available, but the price has risen dramatically. Three weeks ago, I bought a case of 60 eggs for $7.69 at Walmart, now a pack of 36 eggs is $12.69. It is hit and miss on whether they have eggs from day to day. Butter and now margarine are getting restocked, but there is less and less in the case. I haven't seen flour in any stores in our town for over a month. Sugar ebbs and flows. The meat counters have a lot less product in them...they spread it out to make them look full. Yesterday at our Walmart, there were a lot of perishable foods on clearance...One of the center meat counters was filled with deli sandwiches that were 70 cents each...they needed to get rid of them...same thing with prebagged strips of grilled chicken. The produce is awful...rotting and wrinkled. I couldn't find a head of lettuce that wasn't half rotted. The apples look old and potatoes are sprouting and produce is the only thing they don't have limits on. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 32257018 United States 04/27/2020 12:14 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Today at Publix I noticed once again the seafood, fine steak counter totally empty, THIS TIME, there is a note that says: Quoting: Keilani "Due to availability of product we have closed this servce case until further notice." So, my friends, this is not a "hoarding" issue, these are high ticket items that they cannot get. What's really odd about this is with ALL the restaurants here that case should be awash in seafood and steak! Rural Rockies 1/2 store empty....... I'm in the northern Rockies and I buy my beef from local ranchers. Not a problem with getting it but the price has tripled from last spring! |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 78710561 United States 04/27/2020 12:24 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Southeastern Nebraska, not bad, but fewer choices & some items are chronically out-of-stock. Target now has a board posted near entrance notifying you right away of certain items that are in-stock or not. I wanted more Vitamin D, but not keen on paying $23 for the only bottle they had! All the store-brand stuff was sold out. Most paper items still gone & couldn’t find a new pair of dishwashing gloves. Whole sections of the baking aisle were wiped out, not even sure what had been there. No yeast to be found there, but finally located some elsewhere. Like someone above said, it seems the cases have less stock in them, but they’re spreading them out to appear like they’re stocked. Hmm. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 73188307 United States 04/27/2020 12:25 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Im in the rural missouri midwest. There are 3 large meat packing plants within 100 miles. The companies are owned by China and are all pork plans. I know lots of ppl who tried to get hired; but they only hire illegals and the factory has trailers/moble homes where they all live. Its scary. |

User ID: 77864301 United States 04/27/2020 12:57 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Does anyone have a feeling were going to be dealing with like war time food shortages soon?? Quoting: Q33 cuz I do deep down! I think soon its going to be like government rations ticket or something like in ww2 No doubt, I just talked with someone who works in a slaughter house in NC said they just slaughtered their last 16,000 cows. When that's gone it's gone. This makes no sense. The price of cattle has plummeted. How can that be if there are no cows to process? The price of cattle is expected to go even lower. A large farm here is keeping all of their calves this year (that they normally sell off as feeders) because they think they will lose money if they sell them now so they are going to feed them out themselves and hopefully ride this out. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77066300 A large part of the US economy has shifted from non-essentials, such as vacations, hotels, sports, entertainment, recreation, to the essentials of food and hygiene. It will take awhile to right the ship of the American economy. The world's too. Not helping matters, even before Covid-19, the US trucking industry was under pressure due to both reduced numbers of qualified workers-drivers and ideal shipping rates. Then too the US Postal Service has been reeling from a top-heavy pension fund. A lot of the nation's economy got fat, sassy and lazy over the past 40-50 years, best symbolized by corrupt, China-loving or NWO-enabling companies like Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, Apple, Starbucks, Disney, Netflix. |

When that's gone it's gone. I have some canned Keystone and Grabill beef. Good dates, tastes good. Well prepped but thought maybe I'd get some more. Every supplier I know of is out of stock. Hard times coming. Meat is easy to can in glass jars. Find a grandma who still has a pressure canner and trade her some handyman yard work for showing you how, or give her 40% of whatever chicken you bring her that she cans for you, keep 60%. MUCH cheaper now than store prices for tinned meat. Do LOTS and lots of canned meat. You can grow vegetables or live without for awhile, but it's hard to go through the war without protein. |

Dried beans. Check online - tons of really creative and delicious recipes. Great protein source, as are peas and protein powder (which stores well). Just be sure to soak the dried beans for 24 hours w a little baking soda before cooking to greatly reduce lectins. Our grandparents and down the line always did so. Be very cautious if you can or jar meat. You must do it precisely. Get an expert to teach you or you can get very very sick. . |

You’re wrong on the reason the USPS is in difficulty; it’s because Congress legislated that they pre-fund medical benefits for retirees 70 years into the future. No other organization, either governmental or in the private sector, is required to do that, and it’s destroying the Post Office, which has to cut costs to stay afloat. One way is by no longer hiring regular employees at decent wages. It also doesn’t help that they were mandated to give Amazon and China preferential rates, at a loss. |
