Do you think it's possible they were coming up negative because that's not what they were sick with?

I asked about that, and my doctor saw many positive cases with no breathing issues at all. That's one reason why I didn't go to the ER, but I knew that something was wrong, but kind of passed it off. Instead, I went to work, was immediately sent home (because I was ill), and was recommended to go see a doctor and be evaluated. No one would have given a shit if I only had a cold. I had co-workers literally freaking-the-fuck-out because of how ill I was presenting on that morning... Opie, I don't doubt anything about your story. I just think the medical industrial complex is playing fast and loose with covid. It sounds like even you are/were skeptical about the diagnosis as well. Whatever it is you have, covid or otherwise, I hope you get to feeling better soon.
