Why do they have to euthanasia/kill the animals? Just because they can't slaughter them for consumption they have to just kill them? Is there a reason as to why they can't let them go or hold them and feed them and wait? Is it because they are from different regions or injected with stuff that will harm other animals???? Does anyone know a valid reason to this?

I know the processing plants are closed but just curious, maybe too many overall to do that on a collective scale

Although I don't know the real answer I speculate that it's because there's no money holding on to these animals. If they can't sell them and keep pumping them out like a factory, then there's no point in holding onto them. Especially when the processing plants are going to be down for a while.

I'm a small family farmer. No one at our level is doing this, Big Ag has a set time period for feeders (pigs raised for slaughter) and the cost per unit is fixed. The more you feed them, the less you make, plus the animals continue to grow and almost all commercial pig production is scaled for a 200-225 pound live weight. No one wants a 20 ounce pork chop in the restaurant/institutional markets.

We sold out of our piglets in a day and half through Craigslist, usually it takes a couple of months to get rid of them all. Now we have standing orders for the next four litters.

Commercial operations own the hogs, not the people raising them so it's up to the company what they want to do with them, but I'm telling you if they put them out for sale as livestock and take the loss, they'd get rid of every one.

They have the next generation coming up and ready to fill the space that the current lot is in. There is no where to let them go to. The deterioration of the health and sanity of most mammals corresponds with the level of overcrowding. Just a theory.

Yea IDK, I seen China was supposedly dipping into their reserve pork stock and it just seems like if places are shutting down and they just kill off stock then it would essentially send prices soaring, like it's something they want to happen.

the size. processing plants can only accept a certain size and weight..

the chickens they have to have room for the next group of young chics, until they reach the appropriate size..no where to put adult size hens...

they will figure this out and hopefully correct the issue..

either that or swine fever has been released and they change the story to cover up, so panic does not ensue..
