I told the 2010 census worker that she was not allowed in my home and was only legally allowed to ask how many residents resided here and number of underage dependents. She wanted in my house badly and threatened that I would be fined if I did not let her in to inspect if I had "low flush toilets", etc. I said go ahead and fine me then. There is no law backing that request that would stand up in court! She walked off angrily and it took me a good 2 hours to calm down but I didn't let her in! And guess what...I NEVER GOT FINED! They just threaten! So SAY NO! They seldom make good on their threats! They are just hoping you will be weak. What I always do is make sure to get THEIR name, and PROVE it, as well. You are NOT under any obligation to speak with any UNIDENTIFIED "public servant". Once you know THEIR name, they tend to be a lot more reserved and less aggressive, because they know that some people don't play dat chit, and may visit them 6 months later, under ideal circumstances. In fact, serve them with the "Public Servant's Questionnaire", which they are legally obligated to fill out BEFORE you are required to respond to THEIR inquiries. As per the Privacy Act of 1974.
