I have been thinking of this movie also. The Richard Dreyfus character tears off the gas mask and says loudly that the outbreak is all fake. 2001 A Space Odyssey also has a fake outbreak as part of it's story line too, for what it's worth.

At least in the movie they weren’t trying to kill people but just get them away from the area. But yeah if they need to do something they will think of a reason. But to pull something off like this covid thing is huge. Maybe it is real and they are just using it to their advantage. Who knows.

Funny I just watched that movie for the first time the other day.

Lately I've been wondering why China was one of the participants at Event 201. Why not Russia? Or Canada? Or Great Britain? Or any other country as a whole?
