Praying mantis filmed devouring brain of giant 'murder hornet' in 'nightmare' footage
'Brains" ...

LOL

[link to www.mirror.co.uk (secure)]

Shocking footage shows a praying mantis eating the brain of a giant 'murder hornet' after it pounces on it and tears into its head.

The so-called murder hornet can be fatal to humans as multiple stings can lead to the toxic venom entering the bloodstream.

A video posted online shows the mantis slowly creeping up on the hornet before it suddenly attacks.

It rips into the hornet's head and starts viciously eating a way at it, bit by bit.

The praying mantis does not give up - it pecks away at it and at its brains, until the insect appears headless.

The footage has had more than 16,000 views online.

I would like to point out that it is a female praying mantis in that video and not the smaller male.

Lol it's not eating his brain on purpose. You can see the mantis trying to bite into its thorax first. It cant bite through the shell. It finds a softer spot in the bees eye and starts from there. Mantis just grab things, hold them and start eating it, lizards and small rodents arent even safe. Its risky picking them up 90% of the time they are docile but I've had the grab a finger and start chewing and it is incredibly painful and draws blood instantly.

There are some good videos on utube showing how the Japanese bee farmers have been dealing with the giant Asian hornets to protect their bee hives.
- They restrict the hive opening height so that just a smaller honey bee can fit through it. They cut strips of aluminum cans and tack them across the opening so the much larger hornets cannot get inside or chew away at the entrance to make it larger for them to fit through.
- They are also using glue traps on top and at the base of the hives to catch the hornets and they look to be very effective.

I wonder if the praying Mantis has taste buds. Eating hornet brains just doesn't seem too appealing. Yet that mantis just plows on through like it was chocolate pudding at a Christmas feast. I guess us humans are a very finicky people. Especially those who were reared in the West after the 60's. Gotta have that burger in a box or else it's not good.
