i think a big part is all these new games are complete and utter garbage

yup... id rather fire up Blender and try my hand at modeling, sculpting etc... id also rather read a book, workout, go for a walk, research things or study... Play my guitar...

But games, and to a large extent movies and tv, bore me or do my head in.

I post on ancient message boards and read dead-tree books. It’s always been that way for me. My parents never let me play video games when I was growing up in the age of pac-man so I never picked up the arcade habit, much less the newfangled ones.

I'm showing my age here but I've played games since the days of Atari. By the time the PS4/XBox came out, if you've played one you've pretty much played them all. Hell I just bought the newest Dragonball: Kakarot game, still sitting on the shelf, haven't even played it & don't really care to. Bought it more as a collection piece than anything. So do what I did, find a new hobby. I like things that go boom. Now THERE'S some dopamine for ya...lol

I got to the point years ago where I just looked at various "new" games and said to myself: I've basically already played this game, this version just has better graphics and some different stages, but you're pretty much just doing the same thing as before. I took 4 years off from gaming at that point, but picked it up again recently. It still doesn't give me the happiness that I got from it as a child. Maybe just take some time off from gaming and see what happens.

i spent £3,000 on guitars and fx pedals in 2017.. just think what gaming PC i could have bought.. But thats just it i was over games even in 2017... no desire to play them.

I like video games still but I am only currently playing Angry Birds 2 and sometimes some classic games on my emulators. I like them best when you play with someone else but my town is very boring.

have you tried any map game? like Europa Universalis 4, crusader kings 2 or hearts of iron 4?
your case was my case 1 year ago, but i found these ones and somehow i can enjoy them for like 2-3 h which is a long time for me (having adhd as well)
and better yet you can learn some history and geography too
