Mexico Ceded the Southwest Territory to the U.S. in 1848
The Mexican Cession is a historical name for the region of the present day southwestern United States that was ceded to the U.S. by Mexico in 1848 under the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo following the Mexican-American War. The cession of this territory from Mexico was a condition for the end of the war, as United States troops occupied Mexico City, and Mexico risked being completely annexed by the U.S.

The United States also paid $15,000,000 ($298,310,309 in 2005) for the land, and agreed to assume $3.25 million in debts to US citizens.[1] The land ceded by Mexico is 14.9% of the total area of the current United States territory.[2]

[...]

The region includes all of the present-day states of California, Nevada, and Utah, as well as portions of:

Arizona excluding the region later annexed in the Gadsden Purchase

Colorado west of the boundary of the former Republic of Texas

New Mexico west of the Rio Grande and excluding the Gadsden Purchase

Wyoming west of the former Republic of Texas boundary and south of the 42nd parallel.

The treaty also specified the Texas-Mexican border as being at the Rio Grande (Río Bravo del Norte). Previously the portion of Texas between the Nueces River and the Rio Grande had remained disputed throughout the existence of the Republic of Texas. The United States had already claimed the area as part of the Texas Annexation in 1845.

There is a map showing the territory ceded.

Illegal Mexicans, you have no right to be here.

Sorry, territory extorted by war must be returned to its rightful owner. International law does not permit land-grabbing through war, even if the war itself is just, which the Mexican War was not.

The U.S. paid a heck of a lot more than $15,000,000 for the land. That must have been the downpayment! In 2005, another payment of almost $300,000,000 was paid along with the assumption of debts owed the US citizens.

Mexican nationals don't understand Treaties. Even if they did, they wouldn't honor them because the illegals are dishonorable and uncivilized. That's why we may have to fight them all over again and kick their butts back to Mexico.

oh and lets not forget Cinco De Mayo, its supposedly about Mexico gaining independence from the French, but what they dont tell you is why the French invaded Mexico in the first place..Its because France loaned Mexico 20 million dollars to fight the U.S. and then Mexico (typical-->) tried to welch out on the loan ...

A piece of barren dessert gets sold. A nation of Americans works it up for a century and a half, invests in it, pays taxes on it, develops infrastructure, cities and towns, and makes it what it is today. THEN along comes some peons who claim it was really theirs all along and think they have some kind of claim on it? Hahaha Sure just like that after all the work has been done.

And oh yeah, now they're "indigenous" What a load. Reminds me of the Jamaicans who were claiming Indian rights at the CT casinos.

This was done by Spaniards...not the Indigenous Mexica.

This land has belonged to many native nations for thousands upon thousands of years.

The Europeans have only been here for a few hundred years.

In Texas, the border has always been fluid. No one in South Texas wants a wall. And frankly, they're very resentful that the rest of the country is insisting that they break up towns, family farms and wildlife habitats for something that's not going to work anyway. (This is coming from the people who live in the US side.)

It always worked and no one cared until the 1990s. What could have caused a change? Could it be NAFTA?

No one here ever talks about how the multinationals, because of NAFTA, bought the farming land in Mexico and ran people off their land.

No one talks about how American retirees moved to San Miguel Allende or Cabo San Lucas and increased the land value so much that the original people couldn't afford to live there any longer.

1.Please provide verification of multinationals buying farming land and running people off their land.

2. The former silver city SMdA was in decline as a backwater village before tourism brought it back to some degree of prosperity. Cabo is situated on a desolate stretch of desert on the tip of the peninsula. Very picturesque for tourists but a wasteland for any kind of agriculture. You might be thinking of La Paz, however that is still an extreme desert climate with highly saline soils.

Funny you pick two glitzy, touristy spots in setting up a straw man. Bet you got a tan and bought silver.

No, I don't think it was NAFTA. I think it is the attitude of the illegals who come here and live off the backs of the taxpayers who pay for their medical treatment, education, welfare, and then expect to be equal with us as citizens.

Adding insult to injury, they march carrying the flag of Mexico, demanding more and more rights. They refuse to assimilate and become one with us in learning to speak English and act civily, and threaten to take our country by violence!

Why don't they use that brave speech and go back to Mexico and reclaim what was theirs when they know Spanish blood still bears rule there? They are chicken shits, that's why.

This is dead on. Unlike the original posted who sad to say is relying on wikipeda for historical guidance (this in itself should show how lame the poster is) the treaty was forced upon the meican country at the point of a gun.

If anything this shows that the lands that were given are actually lands taken illegally and should be returned.

Funny thing is that people will scream that this will never happen but the fact is that illegal immegration is already insured that this will happen wether americans like it or not.

deal with it as white people in the united states unless they start breeding like rabbits got 25 years left before they simply do not matter anymore.

I personally do not care either way I am just statign the facts. I am not white or black but I am a born in the us from a legal immgration in the 1940's mother who happened to come from Mexico but let me assure you the current round of illegal immegrants do not like me any more than they do a NASCAR watching southener.

There has been on and off wars between US Freemasons and Mexican Catholics who were disobedient to Rome, and that's what it is really about who is more obedient to Rome, paying their taxes.
The Mexican Revolution was one of the first, if not the first revolution, was between the American Freemasons and the Mexican Cristeros(Catholics).
