Re: Gone for 40 years: RIP Ian Curtis
Its such a tragedy. If he had not been so sick or killed himself the entire trajectory of music would have changed. He was the best front-man of his generation; Bono, of all people, said that. His songwriting was absolutely incredible and deep, on par with all of the great writers of the English language. His voice was so perfect for the music, so imitated, so copied. Shit, everything Joy Division and New Order did was so copied and so imitated.

There was no one like him, before or after. It would have been incredibly interesting to see what would have happened had he lived. And I say this, being a GIGANTIC New Order fan, and I am so extremely glad that we got New Order, but it would've been so cool to see what Joy Division would have done.

Go and listen to Unknown Pleasures and Closer. They advanced their sound SO FAR between their first and second album. Fuck, go back and listen to Warsaw too. Everyone involved in that band was a musical genius. Just sad that Ian left us so long ago, so shortly into a career where he should have been one of the greatest of all time.

But he still is one of the greatest of all time, if just for an instant. Ian Curtis's legacy will live for forever.

RIP Ian. I hope to meet you in the beyond.
