I have a bunch of outdoor cats, and just finished giving two a round of antibiotics.

Believe it or not; I always hoped that I would pass before kitty; because the thought of knowing that she passed was too painful to contemplate.

Living is sometimes harder than dying.

Cats are great pets

I would never post here about any of my pets dying. Too many anonymous assholes here. Probably sociopaths.

Oh no, I just read about the whole cremation thing and it just adds to my sadness and horror. I feel like I am a terrible person.

i have 8 cats,ive lost 3 so far this year so i now have 5..
they were all 20yrs old plus....

Daddy always told me that my kitty went to straight to Kitty Heaven; and all the kitties play and have fun there all day through!

At least be happy she didn't go in some alley, and there's always a sweet cat looking for a home.

mine just celebrated her 18th back in March. loyal. dependable. still tiny cause she was born premature. she defied all odds.

I am really sad for your loss. I raised Maine Coon cats
for years and adored their personalities--losing a pet is
a very difficult thing. I hope you find comfort in remembering
the time you were "gifted" with. Blessings ahead--go and
love some more.

Very sorry OP.I lost a cat a few years ago that had some of the same symptoms.The Vet thought she probably had a stroke.I left her with the vet for treatment and tests but she died a couple hours later.It hit suddenly.Sorry for your loss.

I really hate to add this, because I know you are very
upset and grieving the loss of your pet.

That your vet would demand the $200 to "keep the ashes"
sends up a RED FLAG to me--this is very unethical and if
they are doing something like THAT it is very possible that
something is "fishy" about their story that your cat died
suddenly.

There may be something going on (they may have banked on
your NOT paying the $200 so that they don't have to give you
the actual proof your pet died under their watch.) Or even
worse...the cat may have escaped and they don't wish to
tell you that...or they gave YOUR CAT to someone else by
mistake and it's causing them a problem on their end but
don't wish to share this with you.

All sorts of things might be going on. I would contact
someone--the Humane Society may help out--or go to the office
yourself and question the receptionist (someone besides the
vet might tell you the real "skinny" on what happened to your pet.)

I would seriously check it out. You may be able to recover
your pet in the end--it's a long shot. Something is off about all of this.

Its very hard to lose a pet.I recently had to let one go that turned 18.She was in a lot of pain.Tried six final weeks with meds to see if she could improve.When it didnt help after 6 weeks I had to let her go.I had her cremated and her ashes are a reminder of all the loving years we had with her.Very sorry for your loss.

Could be bobcat fever I lost 7 cats to it one year.

You are right about the mass cremations with the vet.The only way I am aware of for you get your pets ashes alone is by paying for the private cremation.I personally picked my cat up from the vet and took her for private cremation.That cost was $175 but that probably varies due to location.
Doesn't sound like this vet was very compassionate in this situation at all.

She never had a fever

I have found they are too. They are so different between each one. Never had a same personality cat and had many. The last one was a firecracker. That cat was declawed (before I got her) and spayed and maybe 6 pounds wet. She squared up to to big dogs when confronted for a couple of month vacation once. By the end, the huge dogs were following her around like her lapdogs. She did the same with other alpha cats. They all just knew the boss arrived and now we're taking orders. Strange and funny and cool. I think she was reincarnated Patton as a girl cat or something.

So sorry - that is the worst. Your kitty may visit you in a dream someday. Until then remember the good days and take one day at a time. Sorry for your loss.
