Time to Open the Bars, Leaders Say. - Mortgage delinquencies surge by 1.6M in April, the biggest monthly jump eve Delinquencies among borrowers for past-due mortgages are soaring, a sign that Americans are struggling to pay their bills due to a wave of layoffs or lost income from the coronavirus pandemic. Mortgage delinquencies surged by 1.6 million in April, the largest single-month jump in history, according to a report from Black Knight, a mortgage technology and data provider. The data includes both homeowners past due on mortgage payments who aren’t in forbearance, along with those in forbearance plans and who didn’t make a mortgage payment in April. At 6.45%, the national delinquency rate nearly doubled from 3.06% in March, the largest single-month increase ever recorded, and nearly three times the prior record for a single month during the height of the financial crisis in late 2008, Black Knight said. Get me out of here!: Americans flee crowded cities amid COVID-19, consider permanent moves Do I qualify for coronavirus relief?: Struggling borrowers must contact lenders for forbearance or deferment options For context, it took more than 18 months before the first 1.6 million homeowners became delinquent during the Great Recession, says Andy Walden, economist and director of market research at Black Knight. And there is still potential for a second wave of delinquencies in May, he added. “The impact of COVID-19 on the housing and mortgage markets has already been substantial," Walden says. "It will be some months before we can gauge the full extent of that impact. Whatever the ultimate scope, it is almost certain the effects will resonate for many months to come.” The CARES Act, passed in March, allows homeowners to suspend their mortgage payments for up to a year on federally-backed mortgages. But it doesn’t protect mortgages that aren’t backed by the government, which make up about half of all mortgages in the U.S. About 3.6 million homeowners were past due on their mortgages at the end of April, the most since January 2015 as households face financial hardship. That included the roughly 211,000 borrowers who were in active foreclosure. [link to eu.delawareonline.com (secure)] |

Time to Open the Bars, Leaders Say. - Mortgage delinquencies surge by 1.6M in April, the biggest monthly jump eve The problem, according to conversations with residents, business owners, and health experts in the state, is that Texas is experiencing outbreaks in both rural areas with meatpacking facilities and prisons, as well as some of its biggest counties, like Houston, the fourth-largest city in the country. The fear was that isolated signs of progress and unsteady measurements were being used to justify aggressive, top-down reopening, putting millions in danger. “Today was our deadliest day ever in Dallas County, and we haven’t seen a decline yet in anything,” Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins told The Daily Beast on Tuesday. “You have to ask yourself not what is legal but what is safe.” According to state data, two weeks into its first phase of reopening restaurants and retail stores, Texas last Thursday reported its largest daily increase in both coronavirus cases and deaths. Gov. Abbott justified the continued progress by citing metrics like steadying hospitalizations and infection totals, and some areas have shown genuinely promising signs of calm. Still, May 14 marked the seventh straight day with 1,000 new coronavirus cases in the state. The numbers have remained fairly stable—and high—since, with 1,219 new cases overnight on Wednesday, and case totals reached 50,552, with 1,388 deaths, according to the Johns Hopkins University Coronavirus Resource Center. |

But the 31-year-old general manager of Southern Roots Brewing Company in downtown Waco, Texas, is committed to reopening his bar at 25-percent capacity on Friday, even with small children and a pregnant wife at home. After all, COVID-19 cases seemed to taper off in his area, with four new infections reported Wednesday marking the first uptick in days. “It’s not an easy decision, but my parents have poured their life into this business,” Evans told The Daily Beast. “It might be a little dance with the devil, but it came down to someone dropping off a pot of gold at the front door or letting us figure out how to work with this.” “We’ve been doing to-go beer, but it’s just nothing like when you get a big group of people in here hanging out for an hour and a half,” he added. After the initial fear and confusion of the unprecedented global COVID-19 outbreak, Evans said, the brewery purchased personal protective equipment, including masks, and made plans for daily employee screenings. Staff also redesigned the taproom, outdoor space, and seating areas with social distancing in mind. “As much as we wish we could stay home until we find a vaccine, we just can’t,” said Evans. “The president says one thing, the governor says another thing, the local city leaders say another thing.” [link to www.thedailybeast.com (secure)] |

Inconclusive antibody tests are being used as a reason to open... thanks for nothing Greg Abbott. This is the same dipshit who cut funding for a program which taught disabled kids how to take care of themselves, which would have made them into self-sufficient adults! Right on par for Abbott. |

Most Everybody is probably going to test positive by August, isolation or not. Out of 100 testing positive, 30 get mild symptoms ,10 need to go see a doctor for meds (just like for the flu) and about 2 end up in dying due to poor health or very weak immune system. 70 out of those hundred get the sniffles. |

Time to Open the Bars, Leaders Say. - Mortgage delinquencies surge by 1.6M in April, the biggest monthly jump eve There are cases in some prisons but its hardly raging. A few old sick people have died. Prisoners generally get no Vitamin D, little Healthcare or exercise and have terrible diets. If its not killing prisoners in massive numbers, there is nothing to be alarmed about. Flu kills way more in the winter every year. Lack of air conditioning in the summer kills far more people in Texas prisons but nobody cares about that. |
