The whole point of science is that you can use your own critical thought. Scientific experts aren't gods, they've just (probably) spent more time running the data than you have. But they can still be wrong, just as the OP can be wrong.

In fact, the coronavirus is a good example of a time when a lot of scientists were wrong all at once -- now there's studies coming out saying it doesn't spread asymptomatically, it doesn't spread on surfaces, all the models for spread and virility were wrong, etc. There's still issues with the testing as well.
