I think it's more of a collective 'solidified' dream that is influenced by beliefs and called a 'reality'. The current fad is just thinking of it as a simulation.

That kind of throws objective science out the window, admittedly; but that's just a question of how deeply embedded the collective beliefs are that create the possibility for 'objective science'.
