Central Maine: They advertise meat at decent prices, but run out of the "weekly specials" the first morning, and then everything else is at least double what it would have been 3 months ago.

You?

Idaho, plenty of beef for sale by private party (which is the best) stores on the other hand are slim here and there. We're blessed with beef and wild game. I will put in for some draws, but we can buy over the counter for big game.

We got notice a little over a week ago to change our packaging and thickness of cuts. Kinda like they do with potato chips and cereal , packaging less weight, because of increase in prices per pound.
Example , instead of reg cut of grilling steaks being 1- 11/4 in, they’re now 1/2-3/4 in.
So.... also the pork and chicken we get in is frozen rock solid. Takes a day of it sitting unrefridgerated to even halfway thaw to cut it. Would explain the weird coloring of some meats aswell. If you cut it partially frozen it doesn’t bloom out well. You can’t scrape the bone dust off either.

Still limit 3 packages of meat on Long Island. Costco had it at least. Prices up a bit.

VERY interesting info. Do you think the hard-frozen storage order fulfillment will run out soon, given all the plant closings??

Shop Rite and Stop&Shop that dominate the Hudson Valley in NY I think weaned people off beef even before this. Supplies were always limited here, poor quality beef and usually tough. After Covid it got worse, empty shelves and you had to buy what was available.

Before this I sometimes wonder if it is intentional around here with all the vegans and liberals. Sour the well so people don't eat beef.

I still have not seen a Porterhouse in months. If I am lucky there are Sirlion Steaks available and ground beef.

But I am so sick of Sirlion Steaks. Today I got lucky and scored a couple of NY Strip Steaks but paid a premium.
Saw some London Broil's today but passed on them due to quality, price and meat buying restrictions. I probably could have brought it since it is 50/50 chance getting stopped.

This week prepared meat products are wiped out. But regular meats made some what of a come back.

Just walked over to the window and looked out into the pasture . there is still about one hundred and twenty ton of beef out there face down eating grass .
 Quoting: Bob 78158300

Ok but what if the slaughterhouse won't process them so they can make it to market? It's against the law for the farmer to butcher them if he could even afford a slaughterhouse.

Now what?

That is what I am facing. Get my meet from a small farm. They all depend on the slaughterhouse to process the meat. All the small slaughterhouses have a line a mile long that the small farmers aren't even allowed to get in since the giant slaughterhouses closed their doors.

Not a clue. Certain poultry , pork and beef from our suppliers get sent to different stores in different areas. No matter if it’s ordered or not.
And they run ads for cheap deals, we order 30 cases and get 5. Store down the road about 30 miles may get all they order on sale items, but get shorted on other stuff. I ‘ve stopped trying to figure it out cause it changes weekly. One things for sure, prices will continue to rise especially on beef.
Also I’ve noticed it seems we’re getting in product from weird named suppliers, not the usual packaging.

Outside Charlotte NC.
Beginning of week a few nice steaks. By Thursday meat shortage in Ingles and Harris Teeter. Empty bins except for a little veal and some pork and corned beef.

Overheard meat cutters saying "well, we are officially in a meat shortage". to each other.

Re: So what's the meat situation like in your area?
So Cal here. Meat has gone up in prices a lot. Beef is no less than $7/lb. Other cuts are 8.99 and up/lb.

Chicken 1.99/lb (breast) but other parts that would go for .99/lb are now 1.79-1.89/lb (dark meats)

Pork are over $3/lb and up depends on cuts.

Lots of stock but people are not biting. Some trays of meat are going on quick sale prices but yet still sitting there.

I've not touched any meat as I stocked up before the "shortage." People are definitely not affording these ridiculous prices.

Re: So what's the meat situation like in your area?
Southeast Missouri reporting.

Cheap low quality beef is around 6 dollars a pound even at Walmart, the good stuff is nearing 10.

Very little in the coolers, the shelves are thin in product, and massive bare spots throughout the store, even in drygoods, etc.

It's clear that the supply chain from China is drying up.

There was no butter to be found yesterday at the Walmart other than imperial stick butter.

With the holiday weekend, nothing will be left come Monday.

Lowe's has been out of any affordable lumber for two weeks now locally, with signs posted about a supply chain disruption.

It's looking more and more like the collapse of the Soviet Union looked. It's becoming more and more obvious by the week.

Excellent report! Thanks.

I definitely think getting rid of meat in order for these cullers to "save the planet" is a very suspicious corollary activity within this whole mess.
