or a tree, lamp post, bench, postbox, bus stop, any street furniture you can dance around until attacker gets tired, bored or you see an opening to get some distance i.e. they stumble or fall. improvise a weapon of your own asap, belt, bottle, brick, large stone, piece of a fence, handfuls of dirt, whatever is handy.

1 Call 911 and wait for police, that wont save most people.
2 Evacuate the area of the attacker and call 911 for help. This one is the smartest and most recommended.
3 kick attacker In the nuts, gouge that scumabg attacker's eyes out, tear his throat apart with your bare hands then go call for emergency assistance.
4 If you can't get away or cant drop scum with your bare hands then draw and calmly discharge 2 rounds center of vital mass and retreat to a safe nearby location. Then call for emergency assistance. Prepare yourself to be taken into custody and tossed in jail. Dont speak to the police just call your attorney and pray.

I know a cop whose brother attempted suicide. He grabbed a butcher's knife and sliced both his arms from wrist to elbow. She went numb and forgot all her police training so he bled quite a bit before she had the presence of mind to call 911 and grab bath towels to wrap his arms.

It's easy to think one is ready for a fight. It's much harder to face it in real life and your opponent/aggressor is NOT going to stand there while you get in the right position to disarm them.

That's why diffusing a situation is a better life-saving technique. Granted, sometimes that's just not possible, but worth a shot.

BTW, these aren't knife 'attacks'- they would be better described as knife 'threats'- dude is just standing there like a statue, arm extended with a pointy piece of metal at the end of it.

All the 'defenses' require both hands being up in an "I surrender' manner of response with the asshole standing square in front of you (which in reality has about a 2-3% chance of ever happening in an actual knife scenario).

So great, I have 4 different ways to get a hold of the pointy-end of my paralyzed attacker's arm and attempt to rastle it away from him... with my back exposed to him while he uses his other arm to do God knows what to me with... great.
