Executive Order 6102 is a United States presidential executive order signed on April 5, 1933, by President Franklin D. Roosevelt "forbidding the hoarding of gold coin, gold bullion, and gold certificates within the continental United States". A few months later, Congress passed the Gold Reserve Act of 1934.


75 year old Joan Langbord found ten gold coins in a family safe-¬deposit box in 2003, the coins were 1933 double eagles. The Feds seized them using the Gold Reserve Act of 1934.

Silver is 1/100 the price of gold now. Something like $17 / ounce vs. $1700 / ounce. It's always "underpriced" and is now even more underpriced.

Why would they seize them, numismatic value? That's a defense. You are allowed to collect coins.

What I got out of the article is that it’s time to buy some more.

Their flimsy excuse seems to be that those coins were supposed to have been turned in and were not under the edict of the time. I think there was also some argument that they were not even supposed to have been issued with that date. Regardless, it's poor sportsmanship at the least, and dangerously out of control at worst.

Yeah, they will buy it for $1,500 then when it is 50k they will say "we were only kidding, you can buy it back now".
