I live here, most of my construction friends and acquaintances are not working. Iv'e been waiting for the call for two weeks about the summer job, last I heard break schedules are out and we'll have to do 3 months straight. Oil field ;if you are used to 2on /2off at best it 30on/30off, if not longer. Going back to some old rules it looks like.
Lay-offs still happening at the big oil companies during their consolidation. Military construction spending down and state DOT spending in disarray.

Some medicines are in short supply and extremely hard to get as the towns get smaller.Bars and restaurants not fully open and lots of idiot's wearing mask while driving alone etc...

I live in northern Idaho. Awesome up here. It's also very pretty just east of us in Troy and Libby, Montana. We are getting a lot of Alaska people moving down here.

If you insist on Alaska, I have a friend who can't shut up about how amazing Haines AK is. Small town around 2,000, inland waterway ships stop for a few hours bringing in tourist $$ in summer, weather is relatively mild, great community feeling.

How many Californians could there possibly be that they ruined all the states in America?? Something doesn't add up.

Since around the year 2000, lots of immigrants from around the world have been brought to Anchorage. There was a mission to make Anchorage multi-cultural and it has succeeded very well.

They even brought in these black skinned Africans from Sudan, who probably are not faring too well with the lack of sunlight. A couple years ago I read Mountian View high school was then the most diverse high school in the US.

There are still some remote places out off the highway system where people fish and hunt and live off the land, those places are pretty much the same as they were, but it's a totally different way of life.

I have thought of going back, but after living there for some years I started missing the bright sunlight.

I would look into the Bristol Bay area, there are some jobs there that pay well and people know how to get food and live off the land. The only problem is that drugs started coming into the rural areas, immigrant drug dealers who live in Anchorage make the rounds to all the villages, so there are problems now with that in addition to alcohol abuse, but if you stay away from all that, life can be very good.
