We are supposed to believe that story, that they struggled with this creative decision in some way. --------- On the other hand...let's examine the name....Darth Vader.... Vader literally equals "Father" in Dutch. Darth is pretty much "Dark" or "Dearth" or "Missing" as close as you can translate it in one germanic language or another. Darth Vader was, from the beginning, always intended to be Luke's Father.
