Re: Why did Paul claim to be a Roman?
He was a Roman Citizen. Judea was then a province of the Roman Empire. He invoked this quality to protect himself from the Romans.

Re: Why did Paul claim to be a Roman?
Paul, who was named Saul, was born in Tarsus, in the country we now call Turkey, then a Roman province. This made him a Roman citizen.

Jesus and the disciples were born in Israel a protectorate (conquered land) of Rome and could not claim Roman citizenship.

Why wouldn't anyone born in Israel at that time also be a Roman citizen? Even the pharisees declared Caesar to be their king, that would make them, what? Dual nationals? Citizens of Israel and Rome?

To claim certain rights like trial by jury if caught by authorities for converting people to Christianity. Roman citizens had a lot more rights that non-citizens in Roman occupied territory.

Poster explained it in the 2nd paragraph, Israel was a protectorate not a province.

Wrong answer. Only Roman's had defacto Roman Citizenship. Others, for providing service to Rome, can be given Roman citizenship.

Re: Why did Paul claim to be a Roman?
Paul was evil based on one single thought:

No Christian group has ever broke apart over the Gospels, but the majority from Paul's writings.

They are there to cause conflict among brothers.

Stick to the Gospels, one doesn't need anything more to live for Christ!

Re: Why did Paul claim to be a Roman?
Peter deferred to Paul.
Paul was ABOVE Peter in the knowledge
and revelation of spiritual things,
and Peter KNEW THAT, and gave Paul
the respect and love he deserved.

The Paul bashers of today
(and they are all over GLP)
are DECEIVERS, but those who are TRUE
children of God, see through them
like transparent glass, thanks to the
Holy Spirit within us.

2 PETER 3
15 And account that the longsuffering
of our Lord is salvation;
even as our beloved brother Paul
also according to the wisdom given
unto him hath written unto you;

16 As also in all his epistles,
speaking in them of these things;
in which are some things
hard to be understood,
which they that are unlearned
and unstable wrest,
as they do also the other scriptures,
unto their own destruction.

A challenge for anyone who says that "Paul teaches a different message than Jesus or the other Apostles".

"Not the same message"?

Have you EVER LOOKED at scriptures to CHECK that "claim"?
-----------------------------

1. Repent

Matthew 4:17 (KJV) From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

Mark 1:15 And saying*, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe* the gospel.

Paul - Repentence? Check

Acts 26:20 But shewed first unto them of Damascus, and at Jerusalem, and throughout all the coasts of Judaea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, and do works meet for repentance.

2. Believe

John 3:16 (KJV) For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Paul - Belief that Jesus is the Son of God? Check

Romans 1:4 And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead:

3. Obey / Keep the Commandments

Matthew 19:17 And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.

John 15:10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.

Paul - Commandments? Check

1 Thessalonians 4:2 For ye know what commandments we gave you by the Lord Jesus.

4. Do the Father's Will

Matthew 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

Matthew 12:50 For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.

Paul - Doing the Father's Will? Check

Ephesians 6:6 Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart;

5. Forgive others so the Father will forgive you.

Matthew 6:14 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:
15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

Paul - Forgiveness

2 Corinthians 2:7 So that contrariwise ye ought rather to forgive him, and comfort him, lest perhaps such a one should be swallowed up with overmuch sorrow.

--------------------
X. Be "born again".

John 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

NO Paul - but Peter.

1 Peter 1:23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.
