George Floyd protesters breach Minneapolis police precinct, set it on fire / Louisville protesters shot while calling for justice for Breonna Tay
Chaos and mayhem took over the streets of Minneapolis on Thursday night as protesters stormed a police precinct and set it ablaze in an explosion of anger over the death of George Floyd.

The Minneapolis Police Department’s 3rd precinct was engulfed in flames at around 10 p.m. local time as protesters took over the building, climbed atop its roof, and celebrated amid the flaming ruins.

Raising their fists in the air, the crowds chanted “What’s his name? George Floyd!” as fire alarms sounded in the background and fireworks were shot into the air.

A photo from the scene also showed rioters entering the precinct through an open door. Officers and other workers inside the precinct evacuated just after 10 p.m., the Minneapolis Police Department said in a statement.

“Protesters forcibly entered the building and have ignited several fires,” the department said.

Around 500 to 600 demonstrators marched through the Kentucky city's downtown streets on Thursday night

At least seven people were shot on Thursday night in Louisville as protesters turned out to demand justice for Breonna Taylor, a black woman fatally shot by police in her home in March.

Louisville Metro Police confirmed in a statement early on Friday that there were at least seven shooting victims - one of whom is in a critical condition.

The statement said there were some arrests, but police did not provide a number. Police had initially confirmed reports of gunfire around 11.30pm.

Police spokesman Sgt Lamont Washington told The Associated Press that all seven were civilians.

Around 500 to 600 demonstrators marched through the Kentucky city's downtown streets on Thursday night, the Courier Journal reported.

"Understandably, emotions are high," Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer tweeted just before midnight, sharing a Facebook post asking for peace that he said was written on behalf of Ms Taylor's mother. "As Breonna's mother says, let's be peaceful as we work toward truth and justice."
