Never shoot to kill, but if they have a hole in their foot that will slow them down. Anonymous Coward User ID: 77348497 United States 05/29/2020 05:40 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Minnesota has no stand your ground law. If someone is looting you, you're fucked. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78589210 [link to heavy.com (secure)] "John Rieple, the owner of Cadillac Pawn & Jewelry, a store in Minneapolis, Minnesota, has been booked on a murder accusation after a man was found dead of a gunshot wound on a sidewalk near Rieple’s business, according to Hennepin County jail records. The shooting came amidst a night of major unrest in Minneapolis following the Monday death of George Floyd after a police officer restrained Floyd with a knee pressed to his neck. Anger over Floyd’s death spilled into the streets, as people looted and torched businesses. Videos showed heavy looting at Rieple’s store. A graphic video, which you can watch later in this article, shows the shooting aftermath outside Cadillac Pawn & Jewelry, but be aware that it’s very disturbing. In that video, bystanders claim someone was “shooting from the pawn shop,” which police haven’t confirmed." Booked that quickly? After listening to the DA say they were SWIFT in how quickly they pressed charges against the cop... 4 days?!?! And this arrest in less than 24 hour. BULLSHIT. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 75007266 United States 05/29/2020 05:41 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | People posting on this thread saying "shoot to wound" have no clue about firearms. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 13128634 There is no such thing, that is a political/Hollywood concept. The human body is not meant to take a projectile at 2000+ fps, period. If one survives getting shot, it is luck. This is why Tasers were invented. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 74817522 United States 05/29/2020 05:48 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I suspect this is situationally motivated and that after the dust settles these charges will magically disappear. Cops don't like people getting the idea that they can defend themselves - it is very bad for the cop industry when people realize they don't need them near as much a they think they do. Unfortunately they are going to posture with this poor bastard. |

Quoting: peterpeccary The owner cannot shoot a looter in his store just for looting unless his life was in immediate danger.... Lets say the owner blocked the front door and a looter came at him with a weapon, that would be self defense if the owner shot the looter for being in the store, that's not self defense.... Pawn Shops have lethal weapons in stock and killing a looter of a pawn shops qualifies as both self defense and defense of others. Tho I agree with you in principle......we're talking about a liberal state.....they will cite that pawn shops and any business transacting in firearms have a vault or means to secure the firearms after business hours.....the owner better have a good lawyer.... |

What, let them walk away with your hard earned money and then claim insurance on it? Most small business folk cant afford insurance. Either change the law in your state to stand your ground or move your business to a state that is conservative friendly. Or.. suffer the laws of the elitists over you. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 76695796 United States 05/29/2020 06:24 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Have GOOD QUALITY cameras up recording at all times in your store. If they break and enter deploy the pepper spray at them. If they are armed or come at you with a weapon they will be hard pressed to see you after getting sprayed and you have time to use your firearm (if they are armed and still coming at you or firing at you). If they turn and run out, then you won, reinforce the broken entry way (have wood and nails or screws on hand in the back to do so). Resume your vigil protecting your shop. If you had to use the firearm, well, you have the whole incident on camera showing you tried non lethal means (pepper spray) and they still attacked you with a weapon. If they dont have a weapon and still come at you, deploy more pepper spray at them and draw the super stun gun and blast them with it. Double pain usually makes people run away. If not use a baseball bat, or pipe or buy a baton and bash the fuck out of them. Trust me, pepper sprayed individuals don’t do anywhere near a good job fighting while nearly blind and in agony. *DO NOT USE A KNIFE. Knife fights, even for trained military folk, are dangerous to have for both parties involved. You WILL get cut and possibly killed just out of bad luck. Usually untrained people wielding knives are disarmed and killed with their own knife. Special Note: A short shotgun (shortest you can legally own) makes for the best firearm for store defense. You can load your shotgun with rubber rounds, rock salt shells, or other non lethal shells sold on the market. They are probably the best non-lethal way to dissuade people from robbing you or attacking you. BUT always keep a pistol loaded with real lead if you run a non-lethal shotgun. If they throw lead at you, you throw lead back at them.. not rock salt. |

If you ever shoot at someone you shoot to kill. I can't tell you how many times I've personally heard this straight from an officer's mouth. I'm a firearms instructor certified to teach nationally. You do not shoot to kill and you do not state that you shoot to kill. Ever. You shoot to STOP THE THREAT. If the result of stopping that threat is death, then that is the result. No more, no less. If you are ever arrested for shooting someone, say nothing except asking to speak to an attorney before saying a word about what happened. When you finally give a statement with an attorney present: "My Life was in imminent danger of severe bodily injury or death. I shot to stop the threat in defense of my life." This is not legal advice. Listen to this person. |

This is not legal advice. Thank you. Exactly what I’ve been instructed. This may have been a different story if the perps body was inside the shop Pawn shops hold more than jewelry and 2nd hand guitars. Pawn shops have guns in their inventory. I hope the shop owner is not actually prosecuted but if he is he needs to explain his actions were taken to ensure public safety. Yes, it's difficult to imagine murder charges if they came into the shop and started to look because his like would legitimately be in danger with that mod. Now, if he just took a pot shot at some dude out on the street or sidewalk that is a different kettle of fish. I guess he should have waited for them to actually get into the store. |

Once or twice in response to an actual incident. I'm saying did you ever think of WHY an officer might want to shoot to kill, while the problem of an intrusive stranger on your property has totally different parameters. |
