what we didn't understand at the time explains this.

when working in a granite quarry, the sludge from the cutting of granite would run off and pool and set back into solid granite.

this is the same you are seeing here.

quarrying has left sludge and a hammer fell into it.

the rock set and they dug it up again.

if i grind up some rock into powder (Cement) and then mix it with water and then let it set.

what date would it have on carbon dating test? when the rock was made or when i ground it and re set it?

more proof is that the rock surrounding the hammer leaves an imprint bigger than the hammer.

this is what happens as the sludge dries, it shrinks.
