I try to "speak their language" so to say. So if someone is being an asshole and I feel like they know they are, I'm going to put them down like the asshole they are, usually with sarcasm and everything else that I feel matches their intensity. On the other end, if someone asks a genuine question, hat in hand, I feel a responsibility to answer with compassion, no matter how absurd the question might seem. |

Then give then enough info so that they can run with it and make it into their own idea. This takes the asshole out of the equation, by just standing back and watching them learn on their own what the truth is. You are then spare the preaching and lecturing. |
