More than 60,000 people crowded in front of City Hall where city leaders gave impassioned speeches in memory of George Floyd, the Houston man who died in Minneapolis police custody. The throng marched through the streets of downtown Houston ahead of the rally, carrying signs and chanting.

i remember seeing the signs, "don't mess with texas" on the highway entering texas. this is going back a long, long time ago. i hope that's still the case. some of the cities seemed to have gne hard left since then. it's a damn shame.

Austin, Dallas, Houston And San Antonio are left strongholds.
Fort Worth is holding strong(er) and the rest of Texas is still “don’t mess with Texas”.

Houston police chief responds to Trump advice on protests: 'Keep your mouth shut'

[link to thehill.com (secure)]
 Quoting: OldNorthBridge

People need to learn the "history" of Houston Police Chief, Art Acevado. When he was Chief of Police in Austin, Texas, members of his SWAT team went undercover, as "agent provocateurs", at "Occupy" protests at different Texas cities in 2012. The undercover officers taught the protesters, how to use PVC pipes to link their hands together to keep police from removing the protesters during arrest. What makes this significant is...That there is a Texas law, that states if a protester uses any sort of "mechanical device" (anything other than just grabbing each other hands) the arrest turns into a FELONY! So these officers were setting up the protesters to be arrest on far more severe charges.

He truly is a man of the people!

Texas doesn't need U.S. military to keep the peace, Gov. Abbott says

[link to www.washingtontimes.com (secure)]
 Quoting: OldNorthBridge

Probably not. There are enough well armed, patriotic Texans that I'm sure would get the job done.

I'm in western NC and we have the protestors coming in here as well. Yes, our small town had managed to stay under the radar until now. Trust me, there are enough around here willing to do the same.

Law enforcement officers have removed piles of bricks from several locations in Houston this afternoon. Instigators threatened to place the bricks in cities where marches are held with hopes of encouraging vandalism.

The protest will soon be over when they got their hands filled...

I guess they would not even get it before their TWO hands are stuck to the bricks.

Careful there...TX HB 1177 permits it only when evacuating a disaster area.

the person carries the handgun while:
(A) evacuating from an area following the
declaration of a state of disaster under Section 418.014,
Government Code, or a local state of disaster under Section
418.108, Government Code, with respect to that area; or
(B) reentering that area following the person's
evacuation;
(2) not more than 168 hours have elapsed since the
state of disaster or local state of disaster was declared, or more
than 168 hours have elapsed since the time the declaration was made

No, Texans can carry when ever they want and almost anywhere. That statute was to ensure there won’t be a gun grab after an event like hurricane Katrina.
