My 5-6 yo father pulled my 3yo aunt in a wagon while he tried to help pick cotton. He was an overachiever and still managed to usually outpick the two older brothers.
That could have been my family. They gave their slaves 40 acres and a mule, in Alabama, and then my family all moved to texas and oklahoma to pick cotton. They never had two quarters to rub together after the civil war. They lost it all. Just became dirt farmers and cotton pickers, and pretty much still are .
So, I don't feel that I owe any reparations. They got more out of the deal than I got. No doubt, some of their descendants still own 40 acres in Alabama and I'm scratching for a living.
