They knew each other, and Derek didn't like Floyd, who abandoned his children and threatened to shoot pregnant women. I never felt threatened by other races. I grew up with people who didn't look like me. My family never made any sort of deal out of other skin colors.

People who didn't look like me were my friends. Best friends! Who cares?! Who cared then?! No one did as far as I knew.

We were brought together at school, in sports, and eventually at work as 'kids'.

Then, we went away to college/University. Suddenly, we were "separate."

We go home for holidays and when we see eachother, it's like nothing ever changed. However, I see their social media posts... They will even go so far as to say " it's not like that where I came from...but!" Well, me too.

This isn't everyone's world. Not even as a Southerner. We DID NOT have these issues in my deep South home *that I'm aware of.
