This is ridiculous.
There are so many countermeasures that could be employed here.

1) Turn the fucking lights off.
2) Smoke generators so they cannot see fuck all. Jewerly Stores and Banks use this.
3) Loud Blarring Attention grabbing noises. 200 db air siren isnt fun to be around for more then a few minutes.
4) Heck, throw acouple of booby traps too...
