Unless there is some public intox law he was breaking which is the only thing I can think of they had him on, UNLESS the keys were in the ignition of the car, in which case he is considered IN CONTROL of the car whether he is sleeping in it or not. But yeah, the dude was pretty much going to jail once they asked him to take the blow test. They were going to arrest him either way. If you refuse to blow you go to jail. If you blow too high, you go to jail. The dude should have refused to blow, let them take him to jail, where he would at least have had a chance to "sleep it off" and would have just had a low level dwi charged against him. You catch a guy drunk and passed out behind the wheel of a running vehicle blocking traffic. He doesn't even know where he is. How are they going to let a severely drunk felon who doesn't even know where he is just walk home? |

Got angry and lost his shit. Unjustified homicide. Brooks has accountability too. Anytime you fight a cop, you are raising the risk of it going sideways. But he did not have to die. Poor police work. He resisted a lawful arrest, assaulted police, took the officers taser, and shot said taser at the officer in an attempt to incapacitate the armed officer. What's left for the other officer to do? Use harsh language? Gotta say I'm glad you are not an officer because your partner would likely end up dead. I had two friends who worked as Charlotte police officers. Tried to make an arrest, the perp got hold of one their guns and shot both dead. Two grieving wives and small children left. Nobody rioted or protested for them. He shot the taser from a long-distance over his shoulder while running the other way. There was no remotely lethal threat. And even if he had somehow hit the lead officer, there was another behind him, not to mention he was on foot so an easy nab. He turned and took aim. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79023146 No doubt at all. Then maybe he shouldn't have turned around and tried to shoot at the officers. You don't get to take free potshots just because you're retreating at the same time. Oh, I agree, as a citizen, if someone is shooting a lethal weapon at me while fleeing, I can fire back. A taser is a one shot non lethal weapon. Not plural, like potshots. Police issue tasers are two-shot. Do you expect the cop to play looney tunes dodge until the other guy is empty? What I want to know is when are we going to throw the bankers and politicians in jail. This is a really small issue in the scheme of things. |

At that point he showed he was willing to use deadly force against the officers. In your scenario, the cops chase him down again, another violent fight ensues and the guy graps one of their guns in this instant and one of the cops ends up dead. You just better admit it, the guy fucked up when he grabbed the taser and at that point that was really the only reason the cops needed to shot him there. But they didn't. Then he fired on them, so they shot him. Why? Because they guy already showed he could overcome both of them and him taking their guns would be next. Quit making excuses for the dude. Anyone with a brain knows the cops showed a lot of restraint and the guy became a real threat. Tasers were give to cops a long time ago just to give them an option to detain people without risk of them or the suspect being shot. The cops here no longer had that option because he took it from them. The dude became an armed and dangerous felon when he grabbed that taser and fired. |

User ID: 78827544 United States 06/14/2020 11:27 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | You're incorrect. Quoting: EliseM1896 Cops and their lawyers have argued again and again that a taser is non-lethal force. Court case after court case when alleged perpetrators have died, police have escaped responsibility because tasers are non-lethal weapons. Cops getting certified to carry a taser are shot with a taser as part of the process. Because it's non-lethal. That means that when a suspect pointed a non-lethal weapon and even shot a non-lethal weapon at the cop (who had to have been certified to carry a taser because he was carrying one) that cop knew he was dealing with established non-lethal force. And unlawfully responded with deadly force against a fleeing suspect who was shot repeatedly in the back and killed. A cop can't reasonably declare a taser non-lethal while also claiming a taser made them fear for their life. A cop not in fear of losing their life has no legal justification for repeatedly shooting a fleeing suspect. They can and will claim that a suspect can tase a cop in order to gain control of his sidearm which justifies lethal force. Not when he's fleeing, shot repeatedly in the back and trailed by a pack of rabid Cocksuckers On Patrol. You are the only rabid cocksucker here. but you're just one of MANY copsuckers on here...... |

Cops did not give high speed chases since innocents may be killed. Fast forward to today. With all the hitech equipment, gps on your cell phone, national database and so on, you are not getting away, and yet it seems we have gone the opposite direction. Cops go on high speed chases, putting peoples lives at risk, they chase and gun down people running from them, they dress up in military gear like some roid rager. Back in the 50's people had GOD. Back in the 50's the majority of people had enough morality left in them they knew right from wrong and public shaming was enough to keep people in line because if you did wrong, you were basically an outcast in your community. Back in the 50's we didn't have people of all cultures pouring into the US and beheading our daughters or raping our children because that's the way they did things over there. It's a damn fucking shame we aren't back in the 50's but you don't get back to the 50's unless it starts in the church, home and community. YOU definitely don't start "getting back to the 50's" by starting with the COPS! Wrong. The crime rate was higher in the 50s. You had serial killers on the lose. Child abuse was through the roof but ignored. If you go back even further, you had the mobsters and the mafia killing each other. There was no godly people, everything was just kept hidden in the closet and out of the media. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 79027099 06/14/2020 11:39 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It’s amazing the amount of effort media puts into justifying a bunch of impressionable dopes burning down buildings and looting Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79027099 They’re embarrassed and only can double and triple down at this point as the media helps the criminals by bombarding us with opinion pieces (cop outs) all day... no one cares about this BS and haven’t since this race baiting shit became trendy in the 80s Why would the media be embarrassed? They probably love this. The president should be embarrassed. And is, if literally all of the world/media/social media/day to day interactions I have personally are any indication. If glp is any indication, he isn't ofc. He's great. The biggest and best. The media is embarrassed because they have been trying very hard to make a possible bad police procedure case into a racial thing and have failed miserably |

Quoting: Zalinsky He shot the taser from a long-distance over his shoulder while running the other way. There was no remotely lethal threat. And even if he had somehow hit the lead officer, there was another behind him, not to mention he was on foot so an easy nab. Back in the 50s, things were a lot different. You had the friendly billy club neighbor cop. You had no national database to track people. You had no license scanners. You had no gps. It is largely made up of well-dressed black families. The black family was still intact back then before LBJ's "Great Society" welfare programs began to systematically dismantle it. Illegitimate births were on par with whites back tehn and the vast majority of black children grew up in intact, two-parent homes. Black families attended churches in very high numbers. Blacks still lagged behind whites educationally and economically but the trend was closing the gap right up until the early 1970's. There has always been crime. When has there ever not been? |
