Quoting: Moose and Squirrel 161502These nitwits should just let the guy go already, because under common law you can do whatever you want as long as you do not hurt anyone. In the UK this is not so. There is a blanket maximum 70mph limit covering all roads (including motorways) that are not subject to other lower limits. Many residential areas have 20mph limits now. Limits are for the protection of everyone, including idiots. |

But that's typical UK, where you have to get killed in your own house, or get sued by the burglar you successfully threaten to defend yourself with a squirt gun until the bobbies arrive. |

I was on my way home from a seminar at about 3:00 A.M. and decided to see what kind of balls the car had. Got up to around 135 MPH before the engine sputtered and kept sputtering every time I tried to go past 135 MPH before I figured out it was governed to do no more than 135. Kind of a letdown, as that is the second fastest speed I've done in a car. |

Tim Brady, 33, is the fastest man ever to be caught by a British speed trap. He was clocked on a dual carriageway on a Saturday afternoon travelling at almost two and a half times the 70mph limit - faster than the take-off speed of a Boeing 737 carrying 110 passengers. He was said in court to have described his actions as "foolhardy, stupid and done in a moment of weakness". His parents, with whom he has been living since losing his job, were in court to see him sent down. A spokesman for the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents said: "This was an absolutely terrifying piece of driving. "Our roads are not race tracks or for breaking speed records. "It is fortunate the police were there to take action before he ended up killing himself or someone else. "Through his own selfishness, in what appears to be a lust for speed, he has completely disregarded the safety of others." Until now, the fastest car clocked by a speed camera resulting in a conviction was a BMW M3 driven at 156mph in 2003 by Aberdeen car dealer Jason McAllister. In the same year, motorcyclist Andrew Osborne was clocked riding at 157mph on the A412 in Buckingham. Police are still trying to trace a biker who posted on the internet a film of himself speeding at 176mph on the dangerous Woodhead Pass in South Yorkshire. Another motorcyclist, Daniel Nicks, was caught out by his own film when police found a tape he made of himself doing 175mph. The father of two strapped a camcorder to his helmet and roared along the A41 in Hertfordshire before he crashed. Police found the camera, played back the tape and charged him. Quoting: Moose and Squirrel 161502These nitwits should just let the guy go already, because under common law you can do whatever you want as long as you do not hurt anyone. So by this logic, I could take an assualt rifle, and unload clip after clip of shells into a crowd, just as long as I don't hit anyone? I could set fire to half a city, just as long as nobody is in any of the burning buildings? I'm not saying that laws are all just, but what I am saying is that people should use some common sense. If people would just think before they act, maybe we wouldn't need so many ridiculous laws. But the problem is, there are too many idiots out there. What if somebody were to pull out in front of this guy, not realizing that he was going so fast? What if a child suddenly ran out in the road chasing after a ball? There is just too much room for possible outcomes when you do things like this. The man is damn lucky he didn't have anything happen that would be worse than jail time and a speeding ticket. |

It still kept going but my wife was starting to bitch me out so I had to slow back down to 140km/h. That's the good thing about flat straight roads on the prairies. No governor on that unit. It's fast but still it only gets 6 miles per gallon. |
