Microcenter may have replaced your CompUSA, but in my area, they pre-dated CompUSA and were always a little better stocked...oriented more towards the experienced.

Yeah went to one in Tustin, California two weeks ago, on a Saturday.
There wasn’t a line to get in, although I heard that there often had been. Of the things I thought odd were the greeter had the hand spray as an option.
There was no escort, they had what I needed. I went to Frys last week and for the time I spent going between different departments, and seeing the same thing, I’d rather drive a bit more to get what had always been a consistent retailer, Frys is just embarrassing now.

Was in a Micro-Center last weekend and there was NO escorting of customers around, you could browse to your hearts delight as long as you wanted. Stock was a bit low in some categories, which was to be expected with first the total shutdown of product coming from China and now with the slowness of it coming.

Getting in they OFFERED hand sanitizer, didn't require it ... mask was required for going in and being inside but if you didn't have one they provided one FREE of charge as you stepped in the door.

My big gripe was I could NOT pay by check. For my business purchases I always pay be check so as to keep a good record of business expenses, which is important when one is spending several hundred dollars to a couple of thousands on a visit. CC or Debit Card only (no cash either).

Micro-Center STILL has the best stock of any computer store I have been too ... though I agree a lot of the small odds and ends stuff is now not there like it used to be. Also their full selection of equipment so as to make your own video pod casts (at different price points depending upon the quality you want to achieve) was almost non-existent, wiped out in fact. Ditto all the better direct to computer video cameras, though they did have the interface boxes to use regular video cameras and SLR style cameras and hook them up to your computer. The studio quality microphones were also all gone except for a single $500 microphone.

For those of you who aren't familiar with Micro-Center it is not surprising since they only have about 16 or 18 stores nationwide ... virtually all in "high tech" areas where lots of techies live. I love em!!
