Another way of saying it, is that you are privileged for not facing the adversity of racism. White privilege is simply the absence of experiencing racism.

It's the opposite of black discrimination. The idea is for white's to appreciate, by putting on this negative filter, what it means to walk around without this particular burden that black people have to deal with.

White privilege as an academic term is totally valid. When used in interpersonal conversation as an attack on a person it can be misused.

My parents immigrated here LEGALLY from a communist Eastern Block Country. They had two suitcases and not even to pennies to rub.

My dad took two jobs and my mom found work. They were NEVER on government assistance.

They ended up buying two houses and raising 3 children.

With that said, my "white privilege" kept me from becoming an LAPD Peace Officer. The ironic thing is that I considered the job of Peace Officer as being an actual Public SERVANT. I am a full on Constitutionalist as well.
