Many computers nowadays dont come with cd/dvd roms. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79067118 I could, but I've used Samba so many times I figured I'd use the network while I fed my face. :'( NowIhavetothinkofanameohnoithurts It's all bull! But I did spend 20 minutes looking at the example of file sharing addresses for Windows connectivity... "\\servername\share" I'll probably get roasted for noobness forever! :'( NowIhavetothinkofanameohnoithurts It's all bull! I like the ones that you can just boot from a usb stick. So convenient. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79067118 I've used Windows since 1999, when I had a AUD $200 refurbished 486 with Windows 95 on it. Duke Nukem on a 850MB HDD was a big upgrade from the PS1 and with consoles using slow cdroms... My family never had computers because HDDs were expensive and tape drives were too slow, even floppy drives were slow compared to cartridges. With consoles like the Atari 2600 and Genesis using rom cartridges, everyone in my family would've lost the plot waiting for months for a Commodore 64 game to load... And if the game didn't load, we'd be sad. The main reason I got into computers was because of games like Duke Nukem, Allied General and Leisure Suit Larry. Then I bought a new beasty AMD with a Geforce 2 mx and really got into Need For Speed: High Stakes. I didn't even really get into nerd stuff like Samba until I bought a refurbished Core 2 Duo and put Mint 17.2. I read Mint was free and worked wonders on old computers, which I thought was great because I'm poor. I'm constantly in amazement at all the people buying new computers to play games, especially considering a old quad core I5 2400 will play Fortnite and CS:GO will run on nearly anything from the last 10 years. There's literally tens of thousands of games on Steam that will run on what people toss into the bin because it's 10 years old and they want something shiny and new. Hell people still play Counter Strike 20 years later... Sorry for the long boring rant. NowIhavetothinkofanameohnoithurts It's all bull! Mac OS has a "terminal" app to enter command line(text commands) stuff. "Macphiles" us it for really complicated stuff. I haven't needed to play with it since going to Mac( 10 years?) |
