User ID: 78698051 Canada 06/26/2020 12:47 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Doing some handyman work this afternoon for a client, she has a gasline hose from her barbecue going to a wall mounted gas connection. Quoting: LTHN. I tried several times to insert the line tip into the connection, pulling back the retaining ring to clip the tip in, but it's not holding it in. Any help /suggestions what the problem might be? 3 pics of the connectors: [link to imageupper.com] [link to imageupper.com] [link to imageupper.com] Counter clockwise! |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 76647789 Yes, do this first. I assumed you had already checked for obstructions. Here in Texas, dirt Dobbers love plugging stuff like that up. Also, if the shut off handle and the quick disconnect is all one piece, you will have to shut off the gas supply to remove the fitting. (OP) User ID: 78992355 Canada 06/26/2020 12:53 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | That is a quick disconnect fitting. The female end has 3 or 4 ball bearings that hold it together when insert the male end. One or multiple of those balls are failing. You need to replace the quick disconnect assembly. Most hardware stores carry those. Quoting: TheGasMan II Just make sure you have the valve off when you remove the assembly. Yeah, the female end has the ring with the ball bearings, so that must be the problem, one of the bearings must be failing because the ring doesn't snap back to hold the male connector end. That is my arm now; broken for 7 months User ID: 75569412 United States 06/26/2020 01:03 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Quick fix: spray some lube like even WD40 inside fittings to loosen them up. Fittings get stiff after many years. Get it all the way inside the ‘foreskin’ part and shake it a bunch of times. Or better yet do away with that crap and use a threaded hose. Quoting: EequalsMC2 Always replace couplers in matched pairs, it's not worth hassles (like the one you're having). [link to imageupper.com] It's a back-flow prevention or check-valve...safety bullshit lol Good idea, probably significant differences that might be a but dangerous, in that propane is high pressure system, and natural gas is low pressure. I do know the orifices are different in the internals, like the difference using a water heater with either fuel. Wonder if there are any King of the Hill episodes had Hank addressing this.
