Question. In 2017 I was burglarized and had a firearm stolen. It was found. Now what?
The Sheriffs department in a different county found it and the D.A sent them an email to release the property back to me.
What should I expect?
It has been a process well over 2 months now. Especially during this shutdown/covid virus crap and gov agencies and everything being extra complicated.
Thank you.

Beretta M9.
Also had an AR-15 stolen. No news on that bad boy yet.
I followed all the steps and procedures according to the law.

Have been in touch with them. Due to the virus b.s and agencies struggling to operate during the confusion it has been a struggle.
Was curious if anyone else experienced such a... thing.

You shouldn't be allowed to get the guns back unless you can prove you have a gun safe.

Well it shouldn't be this way but it may come down to how gun friendly your Sheriff is, as to how fast you get it back! As long as it wasn't used in the commission of a crime that needs to be held as evidence you should be getting back relatively soon! But I would bug the crap out of em til they release it. Good luck! No man should be without his shooter!

The Sheriffs department, Police, and D.A all have been very cooperative.
During this time it has simply been a communication issue as everything seems 10 times more difficult to accomplish regarding local and big government institutions.
Everyone has odd opinions. Some say I'll have to go through a background check again and pay money, others say they'll just ask proof of ownership and they'll hand it over.
It is a trip!
Thank you Sir.

My wife had a pistol stolen out of her car, it was recovered two years later. Since it was reported stolen the DA office called and gave her a detective number to call. Made appt. and picked it up, it was in a evidence bag. Wife just had to show ID, no biggie.

They never give stolen property back. It’s a donation to them, a reward for their efforts. Support police reform.

Don't be surprised when you get it back as clean as a whistle, gun thieves are notoriously anal retentive about firearm cleanliness. That's what you should expect. If I were you I'd locate it's actual physical location now, go down to that station in person and retrieve it...or at least ask for a short visitation with it.

after Canada required the registration of guns in the 90s... There was a breach in security in record keeping and thousands of guns were robbed from ppls homes

you are lucky. the same thing happened to me, and the constables still have my gun somewhere, or perhaps it was "lost". they never get back with me.
