Even growing a veggie garden is hard work, and that's NOTHING compared to running a farm.

The American Indians did this on planting the 3 sisters. Planting corn, beans, and Squash. They each help the other plant to survive. The corn grew tall to give beans support, the beans put nitrogen in the soil, and the squash protect the moisture in the ground with the leaves. They all work together.

People think country living, let alone farming, is a piece of cake. It's not. You are constantly doing something, driving FOREVER to get anything you can't make yourself, pests and bugs, frighteningly huge animals getting into your stuff, knowing how to *safely and effectively* use firearms and other equipment.

On top of that, many agricultural/country areas are--let's put it mildly--hell on earth during winter. Here it gets routinely to be 30 below. You find your clothing becoming dingier and bulkier the longer you live here. It's like a perpetual thing all winter, staying warm and mustering up the bravery and desire to step one foot outside.

Most people turn tail and run after a number of years, including the natives.

So if you want the beauty and joys that come with country living and agricultural areas/lifestyles you gotta take the bad. And there's plenty of it. Most simply do NOT have the fortitude.

That's why most of us here just grin at the idea of being over-run. By any group. Hahahah, we get a good chuckle over the idea.

ok- you obviously know zip shit about 'farming!- so you think you can jut you tube how to fix a tractor? How about afford a brand spanking new combine? do you know how to survive if your crop fails because of blight? do you know which crops grow best in your area and why? and let me tell ya chief, after you watch a million videos on homesteading and small farming- get yourself a book called Five Acres and Independence, then come teach me how to grow lettuce, broccoli and spinach -- without chemicals to kill the grasshoppers... if you do not want chemicals then you need chickens, ginnies are best for bugs...Then you want major crops like Wheat, Sorghum, soybeans or perhaps corn? How do you want to plant them-- Amish style or modern? Amish is cheapest, but a hell of a lot harder then you think!! Modern, well we go back to the equipment needed... you got a lot of monies??? the old stuff breaks down and you need to know where to get the parts and/or rig it up!! New equipment is expensive and cost a lot to fix... Then there is storage of grains- will you do it onsite or at a grainery? what is the going price of the grain?? did you prepare your soil for the crop??? hell I can go on and on--- but you google your little heart out... and may I suggest you start small with your farm.. try you south facing window for herbs and a planter outside that is about 3 to 4 feet deep and 2 feet wide to grow 1 tomato plant (and if you want a variety of tomatoes, you will need to put some distance between the different tomato species..) Pay attention to the weather... do not water when the sun is fully out-- you may need to water twice a day... if you are able to successfully grow tomatoes- I suggest that you learn to properly can them and even try to sell them at a farmers market! In all fairness, learning something from the internet, a class, or a book is not the same as real world experience. I took an intensive 4 month long master gardener class a couple of years ago and the main takeaway for me was how much MORE there was to learn. To say that information about farming is 'easily learned and applied' is grossly understated, and any experienced farmer would laugh at the thought.

Most of them sell all their land bc they make more money from developing it. The Future Farmers of America is still alive and well. Sign up gals and guys.

Farming season going to sleep at night is a joke . no such thing . it's day and night for months on end or loose your ads . maintaining livestock in the winter is he'll on earth where I live . snow up to your ass and bitter cold . you can do without the livestock but eventually it will bite you because that security bumper ain't there when prices for your crops drop below production cost or a number of other things happen that cause crop failings . my first year I did not have time to spend a single day with my wife and kids for five month and my back never touched a mattress.

There is so many subsidies for wannabe farmers out there. Anyone with an acre or more can qualify for SOME form of assistance/loans. If youre black and standing on the sidelines complaining for free shit youre never going to make it. Get out there and make it happen if you truly want to farm. Most of these people wouldnt last a week farming unfortunately. This country needs more self sufficient people.
