That little popgun would have become very useless in a very short while. Wanna take on a crowd? Shotgun. Why do you think "scatter" guns and "street howitzers" were so popular in the old West? That's my go to weapon for home defense. I'm a pretty good shot on the farm, but I don't want to have to be a great shot with adrenaline pumping. Good enough will do with the 12 gauge.
